Warm spices and molasses flavor these traditional gingerbread cookies.
Ingredients: 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour. 1 teaspoon baking soda. 1/4 teaspoon salt. 1 tablespoon ground ginger. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves. 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened. 1/2 cup white sugar. 1 large egg. 1/2 cup molasses.
Instructions: Preheat oven to 350F 175C. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then stir in molasses. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until well combined. Cover and chill dough for at least 1 hour. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness on a floured surface. Cut into desired shapes and place on ungreased baking sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until edges are set. Cool on wire racks before decorating.
