I have a theory on why the title of hxh is Hunter x Hunter specifically. I have never researched it or anything, idk if Togashi ever spoke of it, but I have my own thought that I need to rewach the anime and pay specific attention to it, but I'm trying to show it to my friends and I don't want to wonder where we last stopped watching because I watched it alone as well, but I guess I can post it. The title hunter x hunter tells me that, you can never really be a good hunter on your own, you need a partner, or a group, whom you care deeply abour. As far as I remember no great hunter was shown alone, well, there was Geto and all, but I'm sure he also had his fair share of partners back in his day and he had the zodiacs as well. But even if there are hunters who are alone, I feel like they're usually on the other side. But from the beggining of the anime, Gon was never really alone, he did catch the big fish to show his aunt that he's ready to take the hunter exam, but as soon as he started taking the exam, he had friends by his side. Leorio and Kurapika guided, aided and helped him get deeper into the exam, and then he met Killua, and we know neither boys would be who they are without each other. And then there are Kurapika and Leorio, both of whom not only care for the youngins, but deeply understand and care for each other, and while Kurapika is actively choosing to be alone, it's hurting him, but Leorio refuses to give up on him. And a lot of people were able to pass the hunter exam by working with others. Gon got to Ging by finding people who have worked with him. Even the villains, there's my baby Illumi and ... h*soka ..., there's the phantom troupe, hell even other, smaller villains had some sort of group, of course some of them weren't genuine, but they ended up failing too. And usually when you meet a new hunter character they're either in a pair or a group. Of course if you can name hunters who are alone you're welcome to, but I just feel like the title matches really well if we take it like this. Or maybe it just means hunters against hunters. Idk. It's a curious title nonetheless.
