writing is making me have so many thoughts recently. i keep thinking abt kevin and him being the Most Emotionally Repressed Kid Ever™ and how being in st. churnley's would slowly push him to be more open with the way he deals with his own feelings. like i know he's in band, but i Cannot for the sake of my soul stop thinking abt him falling in love with drama. descovering that he's the biggest theatre kid ever. unlearning the idea of musicals being linked to his parents and creating new memories with it.

and how the drama club and interacting so much would get him to express himself better. how it would make him realize he's great with stage crew. how he would grow found of sewing bc he helps with the costumes and having something to calm him down that doesn't involve physical contact makes him feel at ease (he loves his friends don't get him wrong he's just. getting used to having genuine affection directed at him and they all happend to be very physical)

how excitedly he would talk abt the upcoming plays to the other three and how he would 100% drag them to see every single one of them while commenting on the garnments he helped sew. theatre crafty kid kevin i Love you and i Belive in you.

Chapter I - Percy Jackson

“Admit it.” Hazel observed her for a few seconds with her big dark eyes, as she leaned forward to grab her backpack, knocked to the ground under the back seat of Reyna's off-road vehicle. “Reyna, you’re not fooling us. It’s useless.”

The girl studied her from her reflection into the rearview mirror. Then, she shifted her gaze on her own hands, resting composure on her own legs. They were sitting in the car in the school parking lot and, given New York’s icy winter weather and the the fact that they had got there so well in advance - oddly enough, there was no one in the street -, the three of them had decided to stay there a few more minutes, engine off and heating on. Only this time, however, Reyna had thought, otherwise the battery will drain and I will have to take the car to Mrs. Valdez.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She knew exactly what she was talking about. They had discussed it all the way from home to school, repeatedly risking distracting Reyna from driving and, therefore, ending up on top of some light pole or some garbage can.

Her friend cast a thunderous glance at her, sticking her tongue out at her. “I might be only a freshman student, but I can recognize when a friend of mine has a crush, thank you. Nico, say something!” she jokingly complained, stretching her arm towards the passenger seat and giving her brother a pinch on his arm.

“Ow!” he exclaimed, caught off guard. “No, thank you,” he said, massaging the spot where Hazel had hit him with his other hand, “I’d rather not pry into these matters, especially if it’s Reyna.” He shrugged his shoulders, pretending to check that all the books and notebooks needed for that day were in his backpack. “I’d get a good lecture by her and I’d have to work hard to give her advice and support. And then, it’s Percy Jackson we’re talking about. If I’m being honest, I don’t like that guy. Reyna, you’d better get over this crush right now.”

ben writes poetry for bill that will help with his stutter 

bill draws little illustrations to ben’s poems

they make a model/mockup, bill draws it and ben makes it (they work together as a team because ben has a vision and bill supports him and is creative)

they meet at the library to study.. bill can’t really concentrate on the homework because he likes to look at ben’s focused face when he reads

one time, while doing homework both go for the eraser at the same time and their hands touch, bill gives that shy smile and looks away, ben is like “you can use it first it’s okay”

when ben is just casually resting his hand on the table, maybe a little too far out to be just casually... bill makes a move and they intertwine their fingers, its a shy soft touch but still sends shivers down their spines, it’s still electric and still feels good

just so they don’t attract too much attention for them (bc yknow, two boys holding hands in the 80's.....) they start intertwining their legs/feet under the table, letting out soft giggles because it’s like their little secret

ben casually slips little romantic haikus and poems into bills notebooks/books and bill does the same but with cute drawings

they are always so silent in the library, but you can feel the innocent shy affection flow between them.

um. just wrote something from kevin's pov that went like "he thinks of roland and how he would complain about having to be still and quiet for so long, quite literally the only one of them who doesn't like repetitive motions" and deadass had to pause and be like. wait.

bc roland's a kid. a ten-year-old kid who should be playing in the garden with his friends. who should be going to beaches and enjoying summertime bc he's a literal summer child. who should be having a normal childhood with unpredictable situations and a wide range of emotions bc that's Normal for a kid.

but he's the prophet. the chosen one. he's a summer child to his god, but not to his childhood. like imagine having to wake up everyday and repeat the same things you've had internalized since forever bc everyone tells you you already are everything you need to be. and now that he's at st. churnley's, exploring for the first what he Actually enjoys doing, he's allowed to be a kid for the first time ever, and. sure, control's the most important class they have but it's also action, movement, unpredictableness. and he's good at that. good at soccer too, like. do you get it.

repetitive motions are comforting for edgar and monty and this is very apparent. (to me) kevin eventually also leans into it as an alternative for physical contact. but for roland it's a reminder of what he was. had to be. we all joke about his emo phase but i think this is lowkey the root of it. wanting to go in the complete opposite direction. away from repeating what he already knows. bc it only hurt him. goodbye.

hello.

woke up thinking about monty and grandma shaving his head bc of sensory issues. i like to think he had kind of a short hair already, but it was very spiky and prickly, and his old friends liked to feel it cause they said it felt funny in the palm of their hands and monty never really thought about that before. so when he got home from school he tried it and absolutely hated the feeling. didn't feel cool like his friends described it, felt like too much. his grandma saw him crying while looking at himself in the mirror and just looked at him for a while. saw him fidgety and flinching a little whenever the hair on the back of his neck touched his shoulder. came back a few minutes later with a hair clipper and helped him shave his head, giggling with him whenever the clipper tickled or his hair looked funny during the process. after, he touched his head and finally relaxed, taking in the buzzcut and smiling to himself.

years later, on their first day at st. churnley's, roland would tell him he looks really cool with the buzzcut. kevin would add on it saying it makes his ears pointy in a cute way. edgar would ask to feel it and monty would let him. soft, gentle touches with hard bicking, bc poe would intrude as always. and he would laugh, finally feeling comfortable with himself and his new friends :))))

Now it's not what Poe did that doesn't let him sleep, it's what he meant. It's what they could've become through each other that keeps Edgar awake. What he could've done for Poe if he’d allowed it. What Poe could've taught him if he'd listened.

What Poe's very existence screamed in silence to him every moment they shared together. What Poe made impossible for him to ignore and what he repeated back to Poe with a bitter tone, feeling raw. Too seen.

Why couldn't you just be what you were meant to be?
