they weren’t very close at the start, and it was only exacerbated by the fact that michiru supported the phantom thieves as they were rising in popularity. their only mutual contacts had been rentaro and luna, and outside of the both of them, he never really had anything in common with her until fate had thrown them in the same department after he finally graduated law school and was working on some cases while writing his thesis.
since then, he’d noticed that they weren’t really that different, and though akechi kept that part of his life personal, they shared a common interest in shonen manga and s.uper s.entai. that was perhaps what helped to break the ice between them, where michiru had chanced upon a side of akechi that wasn’t constantly scowling. another side of him that, too, was genuine. perhaps, then, that was what made him stand up for her in a case that seemed to work against her, because if there was anything he sought for, it was finding out the truth and wanting to prove that it was indeed the truth, as well as seeking justice for those that deserved it.
it was apparently a first for michiru too, for the following week, just as he made plans to buy the newest issue of his favourite manga after he was finished with work, that very same manga was hastily shoved into his chest with enough force to stagger him a little, a mixture of a curse and an insult on the tip of his tongue. yet, her words halted his in their place, and his voice died on his tongue as he stood there clutching the manga with an expression nothing short of aghast, which then morphed into a quiet acceptance of their subtle similarities. had he been in her position, he would’ve done the same thing. he hated owing someone favours. he hated needing help, hated admitting that he couldn’t do it by himself. maybe they weren’t so dissimilar after all.
“there’s extra coffee in the machine,” he called out, though not directly addressing her, “it would be a shame to just leave it to rot.” / @girlycorpse.
