As long as they were together she said, that sentence really reminds him of a teen soap he’s seen once. Though it was still nice to know that she would enjoy his company, it was a welcome sensation to what he has to put up with. He swore everyone sees him as some form of threat, when really he was just a simple person just like them wanting nothing more than their friendship. Granted, Akira’s quite lucky to find the friendships he’s been seeking in quite the weirdest ways possible so it was a blessing to discover one within a more mundane environment. No shadows, no cognitions out to kill them..just nature, rides and more people.
“I understand, you know Mercy-chan sometimes you say the cutest things.” Akira’s words were soft as he then took a look at Morgana. The cat seemed to understand what she was saying, but it really didn’t help the fact that he was saddened to hear that she was deathly allergic to him. Oh the horror it would have been if Lady Ann were allergic to him, it really made him that more adamant on becoming a human ‘again’. “It’s okay Morgana understands, he’s a pretty smart cat.”
Akira then steps forward as it was his turn for a little game of black jack. “Well hello there young man, care to wager on a game of chance?? Get enough continues wins and leave with a prize, impress us and you might even win something bigger than just a stuffed animal.” The man had said, Akira gave a rather humble smile and nodded his head. “Well I’ll give it a try.” All the cards were placed back into the deck and was replaced with a brand new deck like with every other new contestant. His mind circled back to the last contender before him, the deck was just as it is now, too large to be a single deck, it would have to be two which makes it a total of 104 cards. It was placed into the contraption that guarantees a perfect shuffle. The dealer then began drawing cards from said two placed face up for himself and two placed face up for Akira.
“Five and seven, that makes twelve. Oh one moment please. I forgot about my good luck charm.” The dealer then chuckles at Akira’s words, it was always rather delightful how people his age took the game of chance so seriously so with no issue at all he allows the teen to do what needed to be done. “It’s not a problem young man, feel free to take out your rabbit’s foot, or perhaps even a four-leafed clover.” The man spoke, however, Akira shook his head. “Oh no, it’s none of those, he then turns to face Mercy before turning his gaze to the side giving her his cheek. “Mercy-chan I’m going to need a kiss for good luck. After all we’re doing this together.”
she seemed a little distracted by all the commotion around them, but it hadn’t stopped what he’d said from cutting through her awareness. cute? that was… the first time anyone had ever said anything like that to her. mercy was usually told she was too brazen, too forward, and her language was too filthy for someone like her. not that she cared, but. being told she said cute things was a bit nice to hear for once.
“it’s a gift,” she joked, lips pulling into the smallest of smiles. she liked the attention, she wouldn’t deny that. but she was going to simply stow that one away to reflect upon at later time. for now, she’d move with the flow of the conversation.
he was right, though. morgana did seem like a pretty smart cat. uncannily so.
“well. just… as long as i don’t get too close to him, it should be fine.” she didn’t like the idea of the poor thing being stuffed in akira’s bag for the entirety of their trip here, after all. “maybe i can get him some fish later for bein’ such a good cat.”
as akira moved up to the blackjack table mercy’s eyebrows raised. she was quite familiar with, and genuinely liked, blackjack. and if you were good at counting cards it was easy to take control of the game and make money fairly quickly. but she was going to pretend like she didn’t know that.
her eyes followed the dealer’s hands with great interest, then looked at akira expectantly, thoroughly having thought he’d have asked to hit with another card. he’d surprised her yet again.
“wait, what.” it was more of an incredulous statement rather than an actual question. he wanted her to… do what now? really? not that she necessarily minded doing it. again, she didn’t embarrass easily, and it wasn’t like she didn’t want to.
so after a moment’s hesitation mercy stood up on her tiptoes and pressed her lips against his cheek. she lingered for just a moment, then shrank back down. “you know, if that wasn’t good enough, i could always try again.”
