given headcanons
one good thing about getting back into old fandoms from middle school is that back in middle school i had so much time. so much that i had time to make headcanons for all the dudes i loved. now the fandoms i get into i stick to canon like a boring normie but back then.. i was free........ so im sharing themm..... xx
i. mafuyu
there is some kind of trauma surrounding trains after yuki's death. he used to take the subway to school, but he'd rather catch the bus. the rumbling of the train cars aren't soothing anymore and he can only hear his voice between the screeching of the wheels. for years after yuki's death, mafuyu refuses to take the subway anywhere. only when he learns how to get to uenoyama's house by taking the subway he starts to ease himself into it again.
horrible at literature classes. he has trouble reading between the lines, takes things too literally, and can't find himself to care about narratives if he can't explicitly find a reason to. thinking outside of the box for literature is hard for him and he's not the best social interpreter...
he decorates his guitar case with keychains. once given starts touring, he tries to make it a challenge to buy a small pin or keychain from every city, while akihiko and ritsuka try to make mafuyu buy the ugliest keychains they can find.
at a certain point, he gets really into watching b&w films under haruki's influence. they meet once a week at haruki's to watch some niche european film dug up from ancient tombs for haruki's enjoyment, and mafuyu gets into it. he likes movies with no dialogue, but when he tries to get hiiragi to watch one he complains that there's "not enough car crashes and people dying"
he never gets his driver's license. he drives, though. (this is illegal by the way)
as much as he loves his mother, he holds her at an arm's length. they can't seem to connect about anything and they're never home at the same times so she just feels like a roommate. mafuyu never comes out to his mom but it's not a big shocker to her. it bothers ritsuka that mafuyu and his mom don't talk about serious things like that but mafuyu says that it's weird to start now (in high school)
after yuki's death, mafuyu frequently experiences sleep paralysis due to intense anxiety and a withering mental state. the first few times, it freaked him out a lot and he tried to go days without sleeping (which just worsened it later on.) but he eventually accepts it until one day it goes away. for this period in his life, mafuyu would've considered a medical insomniac (but he never went to a doctor about it)
ii. ritsuka
he had a crush on akihiko for a bit, but he didn't know it. only haruki ever really picked up on it, but it was one of those lifeguard-at-the-beach-and-you're-seven-years-old type of crushes (celebrity crushes, think). akihiko claims that he never picked up on it, but... cmon....
moving out of his childhood home was hard. he was always used to his sister barging into his room and his parents being around that his first few nights in his new apartment was scary. a family man through and through
he is an amazing driver! mafuyu never got his license so he was a chauffeur for a bit until he decided to teach mafuyu how to drive. and then... he just kinda lets mafuyu take the wheel sometimes even though that's illegal. ritsuka passed his test on the first try with flying colors
ritsuka comes out to his parents during college. he spends weeks planning it with mafuyu and haruki and akihiko, who all give him conflicting advice. he chooses to ignore all of them and just do it after getting shitfaced, and it doesn't go over well. he was never too affectionate or close with his parents, but there's a certain kind of awkwardness now whenever they bring up mafuyu. it's just something they don't talk about.
on the contrary, yayoi is surprisingly open to it. granted, she already heard something about it from haruki, but hearing it from ritsuka she's happy for him. she's wary of how stressed mafuyu makes him, but decides that she'll worry about it when ritsuka comes to her about it first
a lightweight. and he doesn't like to drink too much because he hates getting hungover. the most he'll really have is a glass of beer with a bowl of ramen, but alcohol just gets him red and queasy. (mafuyu loves to drink and ritsuka is a great caregiver)
he starts learning english in college. he's the second best at english in given next to akihiko, although his speech sounds very rehearsed and akihiko pokes fun at him
iii. akihiko
his piercings started as a form of rebellion against his parents and self expression when he was younger, and then a form of self harm when he was with ugetsu. as he gets older, he stops getting them and takes out some of his other piercings. he got his belly button piercing to piss ugetsu off, so he takes it out when he finally starts dating haruki
he was raised bilingual in english and japanese, as his father is british and his mother is japanese. surprisingly, he doesn't have a british accent, but he does tend to use british vocabulary
he went to an international school in japan up until high school
all of his 'tough dude' attributes started out as a performance to piss his parents off (motorcycling, piercings, smoking, etc) but he genuinely started to like the aesthetic.
as a teenager, he had a horrible relationship with his parents and often found them to be disappointing. he preferred to be away from his family and slept around at friends' houses. however, as an adult, he understands their circumstances better and reconciles their relationship, even though his parents are still dubious about his activities and financial situation
he was the result of a teen pregnancy and an elopement. he doesn't know his maternal grandparents because his mother was disowned, and he doesn't know his paternal side of the family because he's never been to visit them
some other part time jobs he's had are: factory manager, working printers at a hardware store, janitor (at a gym), english tutor (he quit pretty quickly as he realized he didn't like teaching people), and concert venue usher
iv. haruki
he is the most politically aware out of the four given members. mafuyu cares about politics slightly but only the most direct (?) kind (mayor and president are the only things he gafs about), ritsuka frankly doesn't understand politics and just goes with whatever side seems the most liberal, and akihiko is fairly well versed in politics but he is nothing compared to haruki. haruki could run for president... and win.
he was bullied as a kid for being too much of a pushover. he spent many nights in elementary school doing homework for other kids and reluctantly helping kids cheat on their tests. it was only when his older sister beat up some of the bullies that he was free!
genuinely a movie buff. nobody who's normal about movies becomes a film major... he watches a lot of b&w movies in his early 20s (when he wants to be niche), but is also incredibly knowledgable about 'classics' from all other the world. he loves analyzing scripts and crying over fictional characters, something that disgusts mafuyu
^ surprisingly handles horror movies well because he knows how all the fake gore and blood is made in post. but well-written psychological horror will kill him...
he never came out to anybody in his family. despite loving his family very much, he's never told his sisters or his parents personal details about him. they assume that akihiko is a strange roommate and that haruki is a virgin for life who will die with never having married anyone. it bothers haruki slightly that he's too afraid to be honest with his family, but he doesn't like stirring up conflict in his family anyway
he envies a lot of things about akihiko, like how he can live carefreely and how everyone can like him. haruki wishes he could be more charming and easygoing and it sometimes bothers him that people view him only as an older brother figure
despite hanging with an artsy group of people in college, haruki refused to go hookah clubbing or recreationally smoke. they teased him about having a stick up his ass, but really he was just scared about getting drug tested. and he doesn't do well with authority figures.
he started smoking cigarettes in college, though, and he tries to stop when he goes to visit his parents. but it's a full-fledged addiction and he runs through several packs a week. he smokes more than akihiko and more often when he's stressed (which is often).
v. hiiragi
he cried while getting his ears pierced. every new piercing came with about an hour's worth of screeching and crying in pain, but the next day he'd be raving about how it "didn't hurt one bit and people who cry are total pussies!"
^ he got his ears pierced by an unethical piercing stores that totally wasn't certified. he did it after a concert with shizusumi and it was kind of a form of self harm with how irrationally he decided to do it. despite the horrible circumstances and the dirty piercing store that pierced his cartilage with a gun, they never got infected and he had a quick and easy healing process
he has frequent nightmares that involve his world collapsing around him like a mirage. he has existential crisis nightmares that his world isn't real and it's all a dream... scary
he has extremely beautiful eyes. it turns shizusumi on when he cries. freak!
his hair is really fried from bleaching it over and over again for years on end. it bothers him how dry his hair is, but once syh gets famous and he gets a whole styling team, he leaves it for them to fix it. it never really 'heals', but he likes the bleached look so he can't bring himself to stop
in the timeskip, he doesn't smoke regularly but on difficult days he takes shizusumi's cigarettes. shizusumi hates it when he smokes because he's supposed to be a singer, but one of hiiragi's favorite past times is smoking while eating snacks on the balcony. their flat looks over the shibuya skyline, which is an incredibly desirable view, and he loves the sunset over the jigsawed buildings
he gets noticed a lot in public because of his flashy outfits and hair. he even gets a lot of requests to be street interviewed by people who don't know him, and he's always down because he's an attention whore
he visits yuki's grave often and every time he goes, he brings a bottle of sake. he drinks half of it and pours a little bit on to the grass around his headstone. he talks to yuki about everything, which is something he never had the chance to do when he was alive. later, he starts bringing shizusumi too, and they clean his headstone together. despite going to often, hiiragi has never bumped into yuki's mother.
he likes to journal, but the aesthetic kind with highlighters and stickers and washi tape. when shizusumi has a work trip in seoul, he buys a shitton of stuff for hiiragi's journalling, which excites him like nothing's ever excited him before
hiiragi becomes a general celebrity after syh's fame. he appears in game shows and reality shows, he comes out on youtube, but one thing he absolutely adores is vtubing. he has a mischievous yellow cat persona and he does singing streams, gaming, bass streams, and chatting. he has a pretty good audience, but every so often ritsuka joins his lives just to troll and hiiragi gets ragebaited...
hiiragi's parents got divorced when he was in middle school, and he had an older sister who ran away from home. they see each other in public sometimes and it's awkward and they don't say much to each other. he lived with just his dad after the divorce, and hiiragi blamed the divorce for a lot of things. he and his dad didn't get along, and he lost contact with his mother. he comes out to his dad, but there is no big response and they don't talk about it again. immediately after high school, hiiragi moves out.
vi. ugetsu
he lived with his parents and grandparents growing up. for the first seven-ish years of his life, he lived in the countryside. once his parents realized he was talented at the violin, they relocated to the city for his musical endeavors. however, ugetsu prefers the countryside and often wondered what would've happened if he never left for the city
^ he had a strained relationship with his parents growing up. he felt like they were exploiting his talent and felt that they didn't care about him outside of the violin. his grandfather was often indoors and watching tv, so he spent a lot of time with his grandmother growing up
he's an amazing cook. he can make a lot of traditional recipes from growing up with his grandparents, but he's also talented with western cuisine. when he and akihiko lived together, he would cook most nights and akihiko would do the dishes.
when akihiko lived with ugetsu in high school, his parents thought it was extremely weird and wanted him out of their house. however, ugetsu used akihiko staying at their place as 'payback' for his parents exploiting him when he was younger, and they often got into quiet fights in the living room while akihiko was in ugetsu's bedroom
he hates belly button piercings. he mentioned it once to akihiko and when they fought, akihiko came back to their place with a belly button piercing. it didn't bother ugetsu too much, though, because he thought it actually looked really good on him.
he had a sneaky link in russia from going on business trips there so often. his russian improved dramatically from being with him, although the only words he knows are related to drinking, sex, and clubbing. later, ugetsu learns russian properly, but he doesn't like to speak it unless he has to
he regularly wears makeup. he's generally a very pretty looking guy, but he's insecure about his skin and likes to wear foundation and concealer. being a performer, he's been hyperaware of his looks since he was young
