He (the ghost, not the bit of his soul still in the robot) will eventually (the closest estimate is 35 years from now) just fade away and die because of the trauma to his soul, unless he is found and they find a way to reattach the severed bit of it. But he'll still be alive because of the robot keeping the severed bit, resulting in some pretty eldritch psychological damage. He'll be trapped inside the vegetative robot, bleeding raw liquid DETERMINATION and screaming in agony over and over again as he relives that horrible night for all eternity. Sans has a LOT to atone for.

The robot that has a bit of Happstablook's SOUL in it? It still functions, but it Alphys prefers to keep it turned off. Even when it's off, it constantly drools torrents of a red fluid. Alphys had to store it in a bathtub, in fact. Whenever the robot is on, it can barely move. And the only sound it makes are screams of agony in Happstablook's voice.
