THINGS WE LOVE // APRIL 28
THINGS WE LOVE #1: Gridbooks are the best thing ever. If you are a graphic designer, artist, illustrator - these handy dandy books are fantastic for coming up with with layouts for web, mobile and more! We can't get enough of the blog series showing off how designers use them! Today's new post here.
THINGS WE LOVE #2: Speaking of Dandy, we are pretty excited to learn more about the new nano-brewery Dandy Brewing Company, which is opening soon right here in Calgary. Follow them on Facebook to stay up to date on the latest, greatest news on local craft beer.
THINGS WE LOVE #3: X-Fest is back this year with a pretty incredible line-up of amazing musicians! The line-up includes alt blues rock king Jack White; Arctic Monkeys; Tegan and Sara; Foster the People; Serena Ryder; Cage the Elephant; Stars; and Death Cab for Cutie. And MORE. Between this and Folk Fest and Sled Island, Calgarians are pretty much set for amazing music.
THINGS WE LOVE #4: With the vote for City Cycle Tracks coming up today in town, we are loving seeing all of the cycling activists and advocates coming out of the woodwork to show their support. So many amazing local businesses have also shared their support by posting in their front windows. Very cool!
MEET: MIKE WHO LOVES VILLAGE BREWERY
We are so excited to chat with one of our favourite local bloggers today, Mike Morrison of Mike's Bloggity Blog about one of his favourite GIVR companies - Village Brewery!
GIVR: What do you do? I have my own blog called Mike’s Bloggity Blog, I have a column with Metro and I’m a freelance producer.
GIVR: What is your favourite thing about Village? I think it’s there marketing and their involvement in the community. Somehow, they’ve made me feel like every time I order a pint of Village I’m helping out the community around me. And in the case of their new Growlers for Good campaign, I actually am.
GIVR: How would you describe Village to someone new? I’m not a big beer person, but Village seems to have become Calgary’s beer. You feel proud drinking it, especially on either the Ship and Anchor or Oak Tree patio.
GIVR: What is your ideal day at Village? Any patio, with any trace of sun…as long as I have my sunscreen.
GIVR: Why do you think it is important to shop local? Because you know where your money is going. As Calgary becomes a more successful city, it’s important to know that you’re spending your hard-earned dollars on a place that benefits from it. When you buy local, you can see where your money is going. It’s helping a business stay open and that employs people, which puts roofs over people’s heads. Plus, buying local means that you’re helping suppliers, entrepreneurs and the neighborhood themselves.
GIVR: How do you like to Givr? It starts by getting on my bike and exploring all the amazing neighbourhoods that like to givr back to Calgarians. We have an amazing pathway system that lets you bike by the river, swing by Bridgeland, stop for a break in Kensington before heading across town to Mission. I feel a little better about spending money if I know it’s staying the city that I love and I feel a lot better about eating so much…if I’m on my bike immediately afterwards.
