A new problem arises. Takes place after the events of this comic. Monsterkind's safety has been uncertain for a long time now, with humans invading the island to steal gemstones. The very fabric of this world has been torn open, allowing anything from beyond the au to pour in. A rift, if you will.

Those memorials would hold the gemstones of the former queen and king, but along with their lives, their gemstones were taken as well in an incident that happened years ago.

They felt responsible, as a human, to help monsterkind earn freedom again, so they came up with a dangerous, but promising plan to steal a ship when the humans entered the barrier to attack monsters and harvest the brilliant gemstones that host monster souls.

Chara had some not so great memories from their time among their fellow humans. Overly formal with the monsters at first, the young human would eventually warm up this new home in which they were indeed genuinely welcome.

This scene is within the first months after Chara was found washed ashore on the island of monsters, after a ship was caught in the barrier's storms.

Asriel is the last living member of the royal family, and is the current king of monsterkind. All he has left are slowly fading memories of the others. A survivor of a tragic attack that took many monsters and his sibling. Upon defeating him, he drops a cracked black opal, whose item description reads "Trapped within, illusions of the cosmos twinkles."

Chara had a troubled past they didn't like talking about, but found home among monsters. The unfairness of the war's outcome infuriated them, so they made a vow to do all in their power to ensure an unshackled future for monsterkind. They had a complicated relationship with their own humanity, which did not go unnoticed by their goatparents. Two gifts had been given to them, one was a pair of moon-shaped pins meant to be worn similar to how monsters wear their soul and focus gems. Another gift was a metal-based weapon. Unconventional for monsterkind, indeed, the one who commissioned it must have hoped to ease Chara's self-guilt.

Are the others, like undye or sans for example are in this AU?

Yeah! I only have refs for a few of them, but the main cast are Papyrus, Sans, Undyne, Alphys, Muffet, Asriel and Gaster. Toriel and Asgore have been killed by humans who attacked, leaving the young prince to become king in their place. I will post about Sans and Alphys when i make refs for them!

There is also a Grillby who is a blacksmith.

Undyne protects Waterfall. She's loud and passionate, and has a soft spot for nerds who do questionable science.

Gaster is his own worst enemy, he actively sabotages himself because of doubt, and abandoned his kids when they were young because he didn't think he could protect them so he didn't even try.

Asriel doesn't like to engage in combat but wants to be a good king for his people and promised to them that he would help them see the stars one day. Chara had good intentions but severely overestimated the foolproofness of their plans and ended up losing their life.
