     there’s a kind of embarrassed grace in the way he stands, hand on his waist, sun in his eyes. like his gut instinct is to apologize for the inconvenience of having to involve her.   “astromech. silver and blue, about this high? he’s...”   carrying vital information off on some joy ride, apparently. luke scratches the back of his head.   “... lost. you seen him?”

     “Ah, ahhhh, excuse me. Excuse me.”   Caleb raises a finger to tap his lip. She might have noticed ( or perhaps smelled ) the ragged, scarf-wrapped man standing off to the side since some time ago, working up the social energy to ask one all-important question:   “What are you reading?”

          “  do you want to sign it?  “  he wiggles his fingers the best he can,  the one lump from his ring finger impeding the movement.  he had many different casts growing up  --  his leg,  his arm,  his wrist  --  all the wild ways he had thrown himself around as a young kid and teen.  “  i think only a couple will fit,  so i saved a spot.  “
