Making another post because the thought is on my mind.

Earlier today, a system acquaintance around us brought up that they want a partner system, and cited one of their reasons as so they could date a specific sourcemate. Which…no???

It’s crazy that systems are being treated like this both by singlets and other systems. We’re not an accessory, we’re not here for you to date your favorite characters. Are sourcemates nice? For sure! A lot of us introjects have made friends with sourcemates, and are even dating some in our partner system. But it’s fucking ludicrous to bond with someone off of that alone. Us fictives have our own interests, our own personality, our own perspective. Just because our brain based our existence off of a character doesn’t mean we are them, or even want to be compared to them in some cases.

Being a system also just…isn’t fun. We’ve lost a lot of singlets in our life because we tried opening up to them about being a system, and were always told it was “too complicated,” “too overwhelming,” et cetera. Because of that, we feel like the only friends we can make are systems, and it’s led to a super isolating life.

TLDR: DID/OSDD is not some quirky, “uwu I’m gonna split all my favorite characters” experience. We exist because our brain thinks we’re needed for survival. Not to date or fuck or be shown off. Again, while finding sourcemates can genuinely lead to positive relationships, it’s nowhere near just about liking them as a source, it’s about liking them as a person.
