So... Glee ends tonight.
I’m not going to lie and say that I’m detached or an unemotional former fan... because I’m not.
I’m sad to see it end. I’m bittersweet in regards to it ending without Cory (physically, though depending on one’s faith I guess he’s been there throughout). I’m nostalgic for the series when it was new and unspoiled by rabid fandom and crappy writing and greed.
But most of all I’m grateful for the impact it had on my life. I had always been a music-slash-theater fan. Back in the day, being a GLEEK meant something. It meant you were a part of something special even when it seemed the whole world was laughing at you. Not gonna lie, but before Glee whenever someone would ask me what I was interested in, I always always HESITATED before I answered “Well, I like music especially Musicals and Broadway and I was once a band geek so there’s that...” When Glee came on and took the world by storm, to see all these people embrace what I myself have loved for all these years, and to see people like me being celebrated for their quirks and uniqueness... It just made my world a little bit brighter, you know?
Regardless of the “train wreck” it became, regardless of the backlash and the heartache and... everything else... Here I stand, years later, about readying myself to say goodbye and I am grateful for the voice and the courage GLEE gave me to be PROUD of my quirky tastes and interest.
So if anything, I hope that whatever legacy Glee leaves behind it’s this:
Never be ashamed of who or what you are... Be Proud and Embrace Yourself with Unadulterated GLEE.
WHAT ARE THEY TRYING TO TELL ME !? 😱😱😱
