I know foreshadowing when I see it!
daemon asserting dunk is his man because of his dreams vs lord Butterwell calling dunk "the prince's sworn shield" in relation to egg. it's so delicious how dunk keeps encountering all these possible masters (Baelor, Maekar, daemon junior) when he is and will always be egg's man. and to continue with the comparisons… earlier dunk tells glendon ball he has a friend in him in case of a fight or a trial. free from the constraints of hierarchy in a way. it's nice, they are friends.
Glendon ball serving as dunk’s foil almost the way Ramsay is Jon’s (though not quite as polarised). Gaining his knighthood by undermining the very meaning of it, selling his sister’s body to be knighted. While Dunk (*truly*) gains his fighting for the honour of a lowborn girl. Glendon fighting tooth and nail for class and social ascendancy, just to be scorned and ridiculed because he tries to climb solely through strength and the power of a name. While Dunk gains notoriety because he follows his morals and ends up helping the right people. Glendon being a great fighter but using it purely to serve his own ambitions. Dunk being a mediocre fighter (currently) yet still doing everything in his power to help those who need it. Ultimately both of them being intensely loyal to what they believe is their purpose and despite all their differences Dunk feeling a kinship with Glendon because he sees them both as dealt the same hand. They actually make me insane. I can’t wait to see if he goes north with them or if Glendon does get a white cloak (he 100% isn’t going to get a happy ending)

Glendon Flowers
thinking about glendon ball tonight. knight of the pussywillows born in a brothel heir to treason and heroism. sold his own sister for a knighthood you are no true knight ser. you are half a boy and you are thirsty for honor thirsty for glory thirsty to prove yourself. to be as brave as your father who is not your father. they tortured the blood out of you you but they never got your honor. what kind of honorable knight sells his sisters maidenhead? hero's blood or whore's blood it makes no matter. your blood does not matter. some will hate you no matter what you do. but others...they can still be kind. you will never be your father. you never even knew your father. you are the mystery knight but the only one who doesn't know the answer to the mystery is you. your father is not your father. in the stories all the knights are brave and honorable and their steel is true. you could still have it in you to be brave, right? you could be brave
Ser Glendon Ball, Knight of the Pussywillows
"My father died for him. I would have been his man, and gladly. I would have fought for him, killed for him, died for him, but I could not lose for him."
We're going back in time now, to Dunk and Egg. I just reread Kot7K, and I'm always blown away by how much I love those stories. They have a sense of beautiful wistful longing in them that's one of my favourite things about fantasy.
Glendon is a really interesting character, it would be so easy for him to be loathsome - pugnacious, arrogant, a Blackfyre supporter. However, there's one sequence where Dunk meets him after his stunning chain of victories where he realises no matter how well he performs as a knight, the knights and lords will never respect him because of his background, and it breaks my heart every time.
I wanted to depict him in the final joust, with him hastily dressed in outdated mail, having just been brutally tortured. I couldn't find a jousting knight in mail mini, so I went with a leather brigandine to highlight even more how ill-equipped he is. Ideally at one point I'll do a Daemon II decked out in full armour as a nice contrast. He's suitably bruised and bloodied for a night of torture, and I'm very happy with his chunky stocky face.
If you read D&E and ok with a request, could you draw Glendon Flowers/Ball, please?
Fun fact, this prompt (along with a later Baelor Breakspear prompt) is what finally pushed me to read Dunk & Egg. As a result I kinda sorta fell into a new charecter euphoria, and here we are...
