”You simple fool,” the hollow voice chortled in the dark. “Did you really expect to defeat me so easily? Me, the new master of this kingdom?”
A dim, purplish glow appeared behind the throne, revealing a tall man sitting in it. The disheveled princess shrank back while her new friends stared on in astonishment. The captain of the guard opened her mouth to protest, but a shuffling in the drapes above the throne caused her to forget her speech instantly. All theee watched in horror as the sounds of faint, labored breathing grew more noticeable while the man in the seat laughed even harder. “Oh, you wanted to see your former king so badly?” the man pouted mockingly, leaning forward in his seat. “Well, here’s your wretched ruler!”
The purple glow grew brighter as a towering figure emerged from the drapes. Two long claws loosely gripped the man’s cloaked shoulders. Plasna-like liquid streamed from the creature’s face and dripped onto the chair’s back. It leaned over and hissed something into its “master’s” ear, finally making him feel something other than arrogance. “What’s the matter, Your Highness?” he asked darkly. “You wanted to be let out just as much as I did, didn't you?”
