Sparkle Beach
...okay I know it’s a joke but I honestly cannot stop thinking about how Terrifying a glitter-spewing dragon would be. Like, slowburn psychological thriller levels with this building sense of constant Dread despite somehow—miraculously—being the one to survive the first attack of teeth and claws and wings and tail.
Because here’s the thing about glitter. It gets everywhere, it sheds everywhere, and it doesn’t wash off. Not without several tries and time. (And getting a lungful or stray bit in your eyes? NOT FUN.)
You survived the attack. But despite all your attempts to rince off the glitter from your skin and hair and clothes and gear, it still stays on. It’s almost like it’s stuck on. Under any sort of light you’re a walking beacon. And just enough of the glitter falls off to form a trail wherever you go.
After the first week and initial panic, you finally relax. There’s no sign of this dragon following you, despite that glitter making it laughably easy to do so. In town you get a couple strange stares, but no one mocks you for looking like a pink discoball. Instead...they seem to avoid you. You pay for your supplies and move on. The merchant seems relieved to see you leave.
A few days later you overhear fellow travelers discussing a recent attack. You ask for the name of the attacked town. It’s the one you just left.
The glitter stays on.
You try avoiding others, moving only at night. Surely it’s a coincidence, but why take chances? Rumors of entire landscapes torn to shreds with those who wander them left in tattered, glittery remains become common. Secretly you hope that some of the victims survived, and made their own glitter trails.
Not that the dragon’s following you.
At long last your skin is mostly free from the fine glitter that clung to it for weeks. For the first time since that attack you breathe a sigh of relief. The nightmare’s nearly over.
Outside your cave you hear a roar. A shadow falls. And there’s nowhere to run.

So, after two attempts, I’m starting to think that the pattern just doesn’t work. At least not with the glitter. I may just have to redo the pattern to use stranded cotton, which will loose the sparkle, but well, work. The problem I seem to be having is with the Light Effects floss not actually being a good match for any stranded cotton colours. There are a few corresponding colours, but they…
