klaus brings dave back to 2019 where he slowly sinks into a depression because of the people he's lost and because of how much the world has changed. he drags himself out of it, because damn if he isn't one stubborn son of a bitch who never backed down from a fight in his life.
so dave is eager and curious to learn about how the world is now, and how he can find his place in it. he becomes a history teacher, and puts his focus out of school on reading and learning. he's confused with students using computers and tablets to take notes, and is the only teacher that still hands out assignments on paper. he gets up early every morning to go for a run or to the gym, and drinks way more coffee than is healthy. klaus teaches him that he can use his phone to listen to music when he goes running, but he doesn't like it because the sounds keeps him grounded.
every sunday he goes to temple, and he becomes a counselor in a local lgbt youth group. the kids loves him, but caringly calls him grandpa because he's so old fashioned. he gets tattoo sleeves and dives into glam rock which he really enjoys. he's still confused about the whole thing with more than gay or straight, and men or women, but he's supportive and listens when the kids in the group tells him about it. he also thinks it makes sense that klaus doesn't fit into any of those categories.
dave wants to learn everything he has missed in the gap between his former life and his current life, but sometimes he gets overwhelmed by information so he retreats to listen to 50s/60s vinyls and read books he grew up with.
but even when dave feels like his head is gonna explode from not feeling like he belongs in this time, klaus makes him feel like he is right where he is supposed to be. because klaus is the same that he remembers. klaus who dances like he doesn't know how tall and skinny he is, klaus who knows more swear words - and in more languages - than any soldier dave has ever known. klaus who always has a witty response to anything, klaus who steals the covers at night and talks in his sleep, and sometimes smacks dave in his sleep because he's a restless dreamer. klaus who is more vulnerable than he wants to admit, and who hugs dave warmer than anyone ever has.
and he loves the kids of the youth group who thinks it's hilarious that he had never before played video games, and who wonders how proper and clean-cut dave ended up with freaky klaus. the kids who plays a game of "let's see if dave knows this" and plays him music and shows him videos that seems obscure but apparently are normal now. the kids who comes to him when they have amazing news, or comes to him when their world is falling apart.
and if anyone had ever told dave when he was younger that he would once share his bed with a boyfriend, or that he would live a day where he could kiss his boyfriend in the middle of the frozen foods aisle of the supermarket, or that he would join a family where everyone has strange powers, but also are made up of both white people and people of color who eat at the same table and consider each other brothers and sisters - he would never have believed it.
and for that, it is all worth to feel a little lost in this odd age, dave thinks.
not to be depressing on this fine friday night, but i just wanna remind everyone that when we first see klaus back from vietnam his face is completely smeared but it’s not makeup, it’s literal soot and dirt from lying in a foxhole with a rifle for who knows how long with bullets flying around his head and then he was on the ground cradling the love of his life as he slowly died so it’s not klaus’ signature smudged eyeliner look but gunpowder and smoke stains that’s running down his cheeks
steveblackmantv: First slate of season 2!!!
For the TUA opinions 😊 I don’t think Vanya is a villain/bad guy, she’s just upset that she was excluded from everything, and she doesn’t have full control of her powers. Also, Luther is a bit of a dick 👀😂
listEN! i have so much love in my heart for vanya. she never had any kind of malice in her, she never sat down and made a decision to hurt anyone unlike in the comics which was also because she got shit on. vanya got pushed to her limits by her siblings dismissing her, disrespecting her and treating her like she wasn’t part of the family. then she finally met someone she thought could love her as she was, but it was just another case of someone using and abusing her. her colleagues didn’t take her and her talent seriously either. and then she finally released those insane powers, but because she realized how dangerous they were, she didn’t even want them even though it was what she had wished for her whole life; but she got pushed again; pushed to use those powers that she was scared of. and then allison came to the cabin and from vanya’s point of view she was trying to control her again, and then the horrible memories from their childhood were dragged up. and she was broken, crushed - and it wasn’t until leonard/harold kept pushing her about her powers, and disrespecting her family (whom she loves despite everything), and she snapped. and once again she was treated like a freak, and luther decided to make the decision for everyone and refused to listen, and she was just a ticking time bomb at that point. it was another reminder of the people she loved not seeing her as their equal. so she exploded.
vanya never wanted to hurt anyone; she is a product of the abuse she has been through. she is not perfect; she evidently wrote a book where she disclosed details about her siblings that they never agreed to share with the public, which is not okay, but it was her way of processing the trauma of their childhood. vanya is an abuse survivor, just as much as everyone else - maybe even more, because the others at least had each other, but she was excluded completely from the group. no wonder she blew up.

Hey lovely! A bit of a random selection but 21 (I think the other 21 was yesterday?), 61, 80, and 96 for the ask game! 💜
thank youuuu lovely 💞 hope you had a great day!
21. How was your day?: My day was actually really great, I woke up early, spent the day reading my new book which was great and had the house to myself, then in the evening, I watched my favourite tv show with my roommate while eating an awesome meal so yeah, good day!
61. Favourite artist/band/genre?: My music taste really is all over the place but I think if I had to choose an artist it would be Ruelle, her music and lyrics are just so beautiful I love her
80. What video games have you played? Which one’s your favourite?: I played Life is Strange and loved that, the concept of changing little things and that having a huge effect and altering the past, that concept just appeals to me so much
96. Be a hero or be a villain: part of me wants to give a really philosophical answer to this about heroes and villains but instead I’ll just say while it's harder and maybe not always as rewarding, I’d be the hero,
send me a number and I'll answer
💘💐 send this to the twelve nicest people you know or who seem to have a good heart and if you get five back you must be pretty awesome 💐💘
