This is the new crossover from Mercedes GLA – an interesting car for all sorts of reasons , and a rival for the Audi Q3 and BMW X1 . This is more of a hatchback compact crossover SUV – has 185 mm of ground clearance , but the shape and position of driving a large sedan rather than a typical 4×4 .
Mercedes- Benz GLA -Class is a compact luxury crossover car introduced by the German automaker Mercedes- Benz at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show. It was previously disclosed to the public in the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2013 as a concept car .
Designed to compete with the BMW X1 and Audi Q3 , which slot under the Mercedes- Benz GLK -Class and will be based on front -wheel-drive .
The engine is a bit clattery at idle and shudders slightly on the restart , but is quiet and smooth at normal operating speeds , and even accelerated by the lack of praise from coarseness . Hits its peak torque at just 1,400 rpm , and is rarely short on firepower or insistent in a lower gear to negotiate a short rise or typical road overtaking.
The car you see here is an SBA 200 CDI , which comes with front-wheel drive and a choice of manual transmission or six-speed automatic gearbox seven-speed (cars in India is likely to get just the auto) .
Power comes from a version rated the same 2143 cc turbo – diesel used in the A 180 CDI and B 180 CDI , which in this car makes 134bhp and torque 30.55kgm . India is also scheduled for the GLA 220 CDI , which uses the same engine, but with an output of 168bhp and 35.67kgm .
It is refined , economical , comfortable and friendly – although not as convenient and comfortable as some. Mercedes 2.1 -liter diesel is a good choice for the GLA , showing much better manners under the hood of this compact crossover as it does in other applications.
