On the topic of Kony and all past/present/future topics of social value
The world, thru social media, is connected in a way never seen before and there are new connections being made by the second. Just like a brain does when it learns. It creates new pathways, new ways to get to certain pockets of information, interconnecting it with new and old ideas. Trending topics in Twitter/Facebook/etc are truly something special, they let us see what the world is thinking of. And now me, or you, or anyone else in the world can see this and join this global conscience. Even if I where not to RT it, or like it or share it in any other way, the connection has been made. I have now been made aware of something that I was not aware before, I now know something which I did not know before, I am now a more knowledgeable pocket of information in the global conscience.
Yet there are people who go around dismissing the power of social media as a way to bring awareness to the world. They overlook the cause and instead bash society for being so damn ignorant in the first place. It's no secret, people are smart yet we as a race are pretty damn stupid. But when topics of social/political/environmental/etc value go up on the social media talk, THIS is a glimpse of the true potential of a unified global conscience. They way I look at it, dismissing this potential is an ethical crime against your own race. People who dismiss the power of social media are anomalous pockets of information. Cancer.
So RT, like, share, reblog or don't. But don't sit there in the warmth of your computer screen and dismiss people for trying, at even a very minimal level, to make this world a better place.
