🗼: what's one thing you've learned to take as a warning sign in any type of relationship?

that is a good question. i think over the years i have been able to better recognise when people are trying to take advantage of me, i was quite... easily manipulated when i was younger. passive aggressive, subtle insults are a big red flag. you know, just a constant effort to undermine your self-esteem in a really insidious way. “oh, you think that’s a good idea?” or “you mean you didn’t know that?” etc. also the whole “i can do no wrong” mentality, where nothing is ever their fault, they are the only person who is allowed to be offended or hurt by things. generally speaking, i think i am more confident in knowing what i think and feel these days, but i used to be easily convinced that what i thought was wrong.

🌉: in your opinion, what's the biggest obstacle one can face?

hoo boy. i think that without doubt the hardest thing i’ve ever had to deal with in my life is losing my mum to cancer. it’s hard to watch someone you love waste away into nothing, and it’s hard to deal with the pain afterwards. but overall i would say that dealing with my mental illness has been a huge ongoing obstacle, in that it makes all the other obstacles in my life that much more difficult to deal with. i know that a lot of people understand this experience so i’m not going to go into any more detail than that.

🌈: what are your thoughts on 'love'?      

i think that love is about understanding, and about communication. love is having shared interests and enjoying each others’ company, but also acknowledging that you are not owed their constant attention. love is being comfortable enough to know that if someone doesn’t talk to you for a bit, it doesn’t mean they love you less, it’s understanding that people’s lives get busy, or sometimes they just can’t do the social thing right now. love is about kindness and patience, and forgiving small things that don’t mean an awful lot. and all these things aren’t necessarily about romantic love either, any relationship between two people relies on these things.
