Today is Sea Serpent Day. On this day, we remember the sighting of a sea monster by the crew of the HMS Daedalus on August 6th 1848.
But that's not the only sea serpent sighting that happened in August. As early as August of 1817, there was a wave of sightings of a sea serpent at the cosat of Gloucester, Massachusetts. While the initial wave was the biggest, there were more sightings until 1819. This started a trend of sea serpent sightings that lasted nearly a hundred years and only ended with the first world war.
