so bf has been playing around with trying to fix glue head bc I have some that are... well I have a lagoona thats head is harder than a rock and is turning yellow. Some of my dolls unfortunately have not aged well but anyway.
On to what he's been doing!
Necessary items: oxiclean (been using the powdered form), an old toothbrush, goo gone, hot water
The first step is to boil some water. Use a generous amount of oxiclean and place it in a cup that you can easily dunk your doll's hair in, and pour the boil water over it. Stir it around. Dunk the hair. He tries not to get the head in there bc we know that can cause more issues than not, but one or two have gotten their heads soaked too and it the end result so far still seems to be fine.
Let the hair soak until the bubbles stop (placing the hair in the mix will sound akin to pop rocks) or the water cools off, whichever comes first. He says it might be about 30ish mins. Once that's done, rinse the hair until you've gotten all of the oxiclean out.
Next you'll add goo gone. A lot of it. Use an old toothbrush to scrub that scalp thoroughly. Youll probably want to wear gloves for this part. Get as much out as possible, then let it sit for at least an hour in a well ventilated area (ive been setting mine on the back porch). More sitting time may be required based on how severe the glue seepage is. Then you can rinse it out again.
Then you'll wash it with some kind of grease cutting dish soap (i swear by dawn power wash, but we've also been using regular dawn and palm olive). Massage, rinse and repeat as many times as you feel it's necessary (or until it stop smelling like goo gone). Then brush and massage out the hair with some kind of conditioner (i like using Garnier whole blends honey treasures, it super helps with tangles, but he also recommends head and shoulders but im sure any kind of conditioner would get the job done).
Brush it out and let it air dry over night.
So far all the dolls we've done this too have turned out very nice. Obviously there's still a bit of glue, it is keeping their hair in place after all, but the texture and residue throughout all of it is practically gone and looks how it should. Of course hair type and amount of scrubbing may alter the outcome a bit, it's certainly a step in the right direction.
before and after. The swing test of flipping her hair around really speaks for itself. Wish I'd taken a before video bc before it was one blue clump. Now it's soft and moves like hair should.
