When I was in high school, my Japanese teacher Mr. Schlecty told us about the pranks pulled on him when he was there as a missionary. The other missionaries told him that in Kansai (maybe it was Osaka, i think Kansai), the local dialect had a few key differences he should know when meeting the local monks.

Normally, one would ask お元気ですか？(o-genki desu ka?), which is the respectful form of "how are you?"

One might also ask ”おなまえは？”（o-namae wa?）, which is the respectful form of “what’s your name?”

They told him to ask　＂おべんぴですか？”(o-benpi desu ka?)　and ”おなめは？” (o-name wa?)

Which are, respectively, the honorable form of “are you constipated?” and “would you like a big lick?”

I still wonder if he snuck a hidden mistranslation landmine into our lessons.
