Hi Bev! I just wanted to send some love and let you know how much I admire your work. I’ve been following you since the Moonbloom days your techniques and unique style are truly incredible!! Also, I have to say, I REALLY LIKE HEARTSTRINGS it’s so fun and honestly one of the most romantic stories I’ve ever read👁️👁️👁️

If you don't mind me asking, do you think you’ll ever revisit the world of Moonbloom or characters like Sylvie again? I always thought she was so charming and well-designed!

with Moon Bloom, it was a combination of things: the project was too ambitious, it wasn’t making enough money to sustain itself, & I got burnt out and had some mental health problems. I realized I made a mistake drawing it in color, the story was too long and complex with a lot of characters, creatures, and settings, and I kinda rushed into it as a passion project without properly finishing the story’s outline. Basically, I got burnt out with it. at risk of getting on my soapbox or humble-bragging, I’m very lucky that Heartstrings has grown enough to be a full-time job for me, but the unfortunate part of passion projects is you can only spend as much time on something as you can afford, and I had to prioritize other projects during Moon Bloom. So I’m very grateful that people have supported HS 🙏

I also realized I love working with my wife! she’s a genius… don’t tell her I said that how embarrassing 🫣 I can see myself getting back to MB at some point, but definitely in a different way - maybe even prose??

I live in a city of 10k people in Canada and I thought you might find it interesting to know I was waiting for the bus the other day, and some teenagers (probably around 15?) walked past, talking about your comic by name. I don't have much more to impart, but I thought it was neat and I would have wanted to know if it were my comic, so: now you know!

Heartstrings is so dang good. The premise of these famous musicians and how you use it to tackle shame, identity and desire in a homophobic society is so refreshing. Your character writing is really standout with each character feeling like they are alive with a past that affects their future, rather than fully formed and unchanging. The visuals and dialogue work so wonderfully together to really make you feel what the characters are feeling without over explaining it. Having female characters that vary so much from the usual defaults and limiting tropes, including across gender expression, femme, butch and otherwise, within and outside of relationships, and with a range of real flaws, feels so informed by real life and done with such care and curiosity. And of course, yes it's unabashedly hot and gay. I am hooked. I hope one day you can have printed copies because I would love to own this physically. <3
