Description: You play your tricks on Tsu'tey and he pretends to hate it.

You held your breath as you waited, not daring to move a muscle in case it caused a shift in the kelku’s (home's) woven floor. Your nimble frame was braced against the canvased wall, frozen in place as you waited for your friend to walk around the corner. You had seen him approaching from afar and ducked into his home at the last minute, deciding to do one of your favorite activities.

Scaring the living daylights out of him.

You knew that most would not dare to pull anything on the Eykatay (second in command, Olo’eyktan in waiting), but you had no reservations about challenging his grumpy attitude. Besides, he always tolerated you. He may call you annoying and say you were sent by Eywa to test him, but you knew deep down, beyond the layers of solid rock he surrounded himself with, that a golden, soft heart laid underneath. You just had not quite found it yet... 

You stiffened as you heard his deft movement close by. He had to be using the branches of Hometree to climb up by now. A rustling just outside the home had anticipation spiking in you. 

You saw a flash of blue skin and a blur of black hair, which was all you needed to fly out of your hiding spot. “Ahhh!” you shrieked as you jumped out at Tsu’tey, grabbing his arm for extra effect.

He looked terrified, eyes blown wide and jaw locked, as he lurched back in surprise. He did not make a noise, he was a composed warrior after all, but the reaction you got was more than enough for you to be satisfied. Your wait was well worth it.

His shoulders slumped and his posture relaxed a hair when he realized that it was only you, and not someone trying to kill him. “Wiya (damn)!” he huffed when you started cackling. You were laughing so hard, you could not see the way his eyes softened as he took in the unadulterated joy plain on your face.

You folded at the waist, head coming to rest on his shoulder as you doubled over in laughter. Your grip on his arm only tightened as your knees weakened. 

“What are you doing, skxawng (moron)?” he asked, but you were too busy laughing to notice the way his hand came to ghost over your back as if to steady you. You straightened up all on your own to answer his question though.

“I am proving that you, mighty warrior, are scared like a little ‘eveng (child),” you grinned, making Tsu’tey roll his eyes.

“Hona (cute), but you are a mischiefmaker,” he gritted out. 

That only encouraged you further, “All I heard from that is that I am cute,” you teased, smiling innocently, even as he knew you were anything but.

“The Great Mother tests me everyday by putting you in my path.” He sighed. “I was not scared, merely prepared to jump into a fight,” he argued and you scoffed. 

“I am pretty sure that you jumping out of your skin was not your most battle ready stance,” you shot back and his eyes widened, anger flaring in them as he let you goad him. 

“I did not!” he demanded, crossing his arms over his chest as you did the same, mirroring him as you stood off with each other. 

“Yes, you did! Saeyla and Atan are going to love this!” you giggled, backing away to head back to common areas to find them. He would never hear the end of it from his current and former protégés.

“Do not dare!” he ordered, but you were already through the kelku’s entryway and he was already darting out behind you. He never made any real effort to catch you, but hearing your laugh echoing all the way down hometree was magic. He would follow that sound anywhere.

The truth that he would never admit to you was, he had seen you duck into the home and seen your shadow along the kelku’s wall. He had known what was waiting for him, but he did not want to see you disappointed. He would much rather pretend to be frightened of your trick than to see the childish pout you like to wear when things did not go as you wished. 

He was silently glad he had not ruined your "surprise" for him. Despite the embarrassment and ridicule he knew he would face when you told others the story, making you laugh would be well worth it.
