We did this small art study on a really amazing woman. Anna Mary Robertson Moses.. who later in life became Grandma Moses... I never really gave her or her paintings much thought until it was time to research her and put a small lesson plan together for my co op class... I have to say, me plus research equals... well, the more I dug into this woman's life the more I began to LOVE her and her little paintings. She was an amazing woman and never started painting until she was 76 years old. (There IS hope for me) She lived until she was 101 years old (no thanks) but her paintings were her journey. Her life. She didn't know much beyond the farm. Grew up in a farming family, married a farmer and raised a family on a farm.... in really looking at her sweet paintings, I thought about what life was like for her... The Quilting Bee, The Pumpkin Harvest, Home for Thanksgiving. Maple syrup tapping... this is stuff that is foreign to so many of us. She was part of barn dances and church gatherings, she painted snowfall on the farms and cutting down Christmas trees... explaining all these things to the kiddos, they had no idea what I was talking about... but what a sense of community she was s part of, what a sense of truth and hard work, of trust and life. I'm sure life was not easy but it was different. I think Grandma Moses has snuck into my heart for a few selfish reasons...check her out... you will fall in love with her too... her story is a beautiful one!!! #gmamoses #homeschoolart #joeyswickedawesomehomeschoolyearpart2 #artcoop #quiltingbee #farmlife #cc #ccart #lovethisoldwoman #thereishopeforme #101 #research
