Our September Round-Up!
We just wanted to share some of the fantastic work our participants have been doing this month!
Dry Open Mic at Salford Lifestyle Centre
Our Open Mic at Salford Lifestyle Centre is still going strong. On the last Tuesday of every month we continue to meet in the Dry Bar/Cafe for a range of performances including original live music from singer/songwriters, acoustic covers by musicians and singers, monologues, spoken word and even a bit of stand up comedy! It takes guts to share your work with an audience, but our performers are all growing in confidence and our audiences are always super friendly so it is always a fantastic night.
We take far too may pictures to be able to share them all - but here’s a collage of some highlights!
Scroll down to last month’s post for some videos from the Open Mic. We’re always looking for newcomers so if you fancy joining us then please get in touch. Dates are on the poster below.
Award Nominees and Winners
Over the past year we’ve worked closely with Greater Manchester Youth Network on a number of projects. We were delighted to see that some of the young people we have worked with had been nominated for the ‘Creativity Award’ at this year’s GMYN Awards, which took place at HOME MCR on the 11th September.
The nominees included the Changemakers Group - who were nominated for their creative campaign videos that they created with us back in April - and two individual young people - Will and Danny - who were nominated for their engagement in several creative projects including our partnership theatre project with Cooperative College at the end of last year. In our short theatre piece devised by care experienced young people, Will performed a brilliant comedy monologue and Danny wrote and performed a personal and moving rap.
We don’t know how the judges made such a tough decision, and in our eyes all of the nominees were winners, but the overall winner of the Creativity Award was Danny! Well done to all of the young people who took part and were nominated, and well done to Danny for his win! We are so proud to have worked with you all.
Here’s a tweet from GMYN showing Danny being presented with his award by Louise Wallwein:
That’s all from us for now, but we hope to have more great news to share with you soon! Thanks for reading.
