this turned into me rambling about why i like gnarpwall so much but bare with me
i think wallter and gnarpy would feel sort of drawn to each other due to their similarities. in my canon they were both raised quite privileged. neither of them ever sought out to be bad people, but it was circumstances that caused them to become a worse version of themself, albeit in very different ways which i may elaborate on at another point.
gnarpy wants power wallter wants money they both want control. they both have a relatively high status in their society and are perceived as respectable and maybe even feared. they put on a facade and force themselves to believe that they dont care for others and wiped any sort of sense of self that they used to be for the sake of pursuing their goals. theyre both highly self centered and inconsiderate towards others.
these facades clash perfectly because neither of them understand each other at first. gnarpy DID fall for wallters facade and xes also the only person in the elevator whos actually enough of a dick to be insulting and violent towards him for no reasons other than he has a stupid face and is concrete and is nice. their interactions always seemed unique to me because of how wallter is usually unphased and it is very funny. theyre not trying to get each other to break character or anything because neither of them even consider that theyre putting up a front to begin with
though i feel like when theyve bumped into each other enough times on the elevator and how they'd talk to each other every single time wallter will manage to convince gnarpy to hang out somehow and treats xem to some beer and potentially get intimate only for xem to act like it never happened afterwards.
i also feel like wallter would be much better at keeping his mask up than gnarpy is and its be very interesting imagining the growing fondness as gnarpy realizes how fucking lonely xe is from having no real friends (wallter being in the same boat) and wallter finding someone who he can relate to but at the same time theyre both hard to get. they were just acquaintances and then a weird frienemy situation and maybe more and gnarpy especially would have had to keep this whole thing under wraps like its a dirty sexual affair (which it kind of is) while also pretending that xe doesnt think its fun being with him. i think theyd be quite reckless and violent while having completely contrasting energies at the same time which is quite entertaining
also i love imagining that gnarpy would eventually start getting pissed if xe ever heard anyone talking shit about wallter even though xe xemself does it a lot but xe hates him trust me guys
