Food Truck Friday – GO Burger Truck

How much do I love this?! I've learned the GO Burger truck frequently parks in my neighborhood on Upper West Side!

I'm already a huge fan of GO Burger Bar & Grill on the Upper East Side. I love walking in their restaurant and finding out what new burger creation is offered... and the sides... OUTSTANDING.

Tuesday evening, I ordered from the GO Burger truck for the first time.

After almost selecting the Philly burger, I got the BLT and Skinny Fries.

The burger was beautiful! It looked like something a food stylist toiled over all day.

And it tasted fantastic.

I think you can see from the pictures; the lettuce, onions and tomatoes were as fresh as could be.

Everything, including the bacon, was super crispy.

And what a tasty sauce on that burger. I'm not a condiment guy, but I trust anything GO Burger puts on a patty.

And those fries... I screwed up... I should have ordered two. They were effin' delicious.

It's almost shocking this food came from a food truck, but how could I be surprised. Most New York City food trucks are serving some of the best friggin' meals in the city... all from crowded little matchbox trucks.

As you have read... I'm gushing with enthusiasm over this GO Burger truck experience. I got the same delicious burger and fries they serve at the Upper East Side location, but at food truck prices.

I don't see how this won't become a Snack Fixation because of the quality of food and proximity to my home.

Mac N' Cheeseburger

Went to Go Burger with a friend for lunch today. I decided to try their mac n' cheeseburger and their bacon cheddar tater tots (not pictured). I will start with not-pictured bacon cheddar tater tots, they were the appetizer after all.

The outside of the tots were covered in bacon and inside was a cheddar and potato mix, they were, of course ,deep fried and served with a side of house ketchup. They were quite amazing. I have never had a tater tot that was so smokey and gooey. I could have ate an entire plate of them and then another and probably another one after that and... Unfortunately, for seven bucks you only get five. Though, they were worth it.

The mac n' cheeseburger was topped with deep fried mac and cheese, caramelized onions, bacon, cheddar cheese and house ketchup. It was a task to figure out how to eat. My friend went with the fork and knife method, I crushed my burger and went at it like an animal, attacking it viciously and with purpose. With each bite, juices flowed down my arm and its guts spilled upon the plate, When I finished, all that was left was a small red pool.

I would like to say this was one of my favorite burgers, but I cannot. All the pieces worked together. The fried mac and cheese was crunchy and creamy. The patty was cooked the way I like it, medium rare (the way I asked for it, for some reason medium is their default mode), and it was a pretty flavorful and fresh tasting beef. The bun would have probably been better if they hadn't toasted it as much as they did, but it was still a decent bun.

The caramelized onions are where my problem lies. They were sweet and vinegary and soft and pretty much what one would want from caramelized onions, it's just they had this weird aftertaste. Long after you wanted the memory gone from your tongue, they lingered. Take a sip of beer, there they were. I really liked them mixed with the burger and wish they wouldn't overstay their welcome. Otherwise, no it would still not be one of my favorite burgers, but it would be a pretty damn delicious burger.

GO Burger Bar & Grill – Super Bowl Specials

Sunday, my gal and I had lunch at GO Burger on the Upper East Side for the first time.

I wanted to try two special Super Bowl burgers inspired by the teams playing in the big game.

Representing the NFC was the San Francisco Pigskin – a pancetta-wrapped Angus burger topped with Monterey Jack cheese and jalapeno mayo.

Both messy and juicy, this spicy tribute to the 49ers was absolutely delicious, and should be on the menu year round.

The Ravens were represented by The Chesapeake Burger. It was comprised of a Maryland crab cake and topped with caper aioli, shredded romaine and Old Bay frizzled onions.

I don't have a lot of history with crab cakes, but I enjoyed this very tasty, light option.

For sides we chose a couple of the waiter's suggestions –

the waffle fries...

and the sweet potato fries. Both were great choices, and we made fools of ourselves picking fry crumbs out of the bottom of the cup.

At the end of the meal we enjoyed a couple milkshakes.

I was happy I chose one of the manager's favorites – the mocha mudslide.

And my gal reached the bottom of the classic vanilla shake.

Whether it was service or food, our entire GO Burger experience yesterday was an excellent one.

I'm thinking they might become a frequent visit for us.

Go Burger Review

Curious about trying a new place to get a good burger made with fresh ingredients, I headed over to the Upper East Side (1448 2nd Avenue to be specific), not my usual dwelling or eating grounds, to check out Go Burger .

                         With a location in Los Angeles, New York, and a New York truck, I was expecting a good, solid burger, one that I could be happy I traveled to the Upper East Side for and one that I would happily eat again. I was also expecting a clean, modern decor. Both of my expectations were met.

To start my meal, I had an order of Jalapeno Poppers. The Jalapeno Poppers were not overly spicy, had a thin coating of batter (which I'm a fan of; I hate it when restaurants put on too much of a thick batter that overwhelms the other ingredients), and were filled with a delicous mix of cream cheese and cheddar. Way better than any Jalapeno Poppers you'd find in the freezer section of your grocery store, and unbelievably fresh ingredients.

I was ecstatic to find that Go Burger has a good selection of shakes, because what's a good burger without a shake, right? My shake of choice was the Mocha Mudslide made with coffee ice cream and Oreo cookies. Definitely a good size, the flavors that the description promised were all there.

On to the most important part of the meal..... the burger

I ordered the "UltiMELT" burger, which was basically a burger with caramelized onions and bacon, which used two grilled cheese sandwiches for the bun. Although anyone's first reaction might be disgust at the combination (my first reaction was "awesome! why didn't I think of this?"), the grilled cheese sandwiches complemented the burger brilliantly. Constructed out of very thin slices of rye bread with Gruyere cheese in the middle, the sandwiches gave the burger a very thin, crispy bun, with almost no bread at all. For someone who hates when a burger is more bread than meat, this burger was perfect. Go Burger cooks all their burgers medium, unless you request something else, and my burger was definitely a true medium, which is again a good thing- overcooked, well-done burgers are usually horribly dry and unappetizing.  

Overall, I would definitely go back to Go Burger if I was in the area, or with a group of friends. Go Burger certainly serves up one of the better burgers in the city, properly executed and delicious, especially with a shake, on a warm Spring day.

Go Burger

There are a lot of places that offer good food. And not all of them have to be fine dining. Some come with a comfy booth. One of those places is Go Burger, which i went to recently. It is not just a generic burger place. It is a cool place that makes you feel at home. I started off with fried pickles. I have to say although this was a great place to eat, the fried pickles weren't great. They just tasted like pickles with bread crumbs on them. Nothing special. Next I had the fried chicken which was special. It fell right off the bone and melted in my mouth. It was amazing. The outside was ao crispy and it tasted like it just came out, freshly and lightly fried. Anybody could eat this and close their eyes and imagine they are at home. I also tried their candy-tasting sweet potato fries. They were awesome.  Go Burger is an original, fun, and tasty experience, and I will definately go there again sometime.
