Go-Go’s - Beauty and the Beat (1981)

On this day—July 14, 1981—the debut album by the Go-Go’s, Beauty and the Beat, was released. Supported by its two hit singles—“We Got the Beat” and “Our Lips Are Sealed,” that hit number 2 and number 20, respectively—the Go-Go’s debut was a monster success. The album reached the top spot for both albums and cassettes on the Billboard chart in March of 1982, where it stayed for the next six weeks. Selling more than two million copies, it is not only one of the most successful debuts of all time, but also one of the best albums of the 80s and a cornerstone of American new wave.
