PLEASE I am in tears I need to know more about the emetsound dance trend. it is my new favorite thing and I've watched your video like five times and I tried googling the trend but I can't read the languages😭
It's basically just a trend that the Korean dance/music(?) group created in order to promote their new song "Earth Defense Force", which came out in full shortly after their original video.
The group has a douyin account with 250k followers (as of right now, not sure how much it had before) and their original Earth Defense Force douyin now has 172,000 likes (lower left).
I don't think there's much more to the trend other than that people were like "huh! weird" and decided to do it.
The first recreation douyin which blew up (and was at the top of the "sound use" page when I was collecting videos to compile), was this video, which I reposted separately before I even saw the original video. It actually has 249,000 likes at this moment, so more than the original lol (not uncommon on douyin). Another thing is that the caption of the popular recreation was "没事就走两步" (If there's nothing wrong, just walk a few steps), which itself is a line from the popular Chunwan (CCTV New Year's Gala) trilogy "卖拐 (Selling Crutches)", which was performed in 2001 (卖拐), 2002 (卖车), and 2005 (功夫). The skit, if you can't understand Chinese, is basically two swindlers slowly convincing a gullible customer that he can't walk in order to sell him a crutch. So actually one of the names for this trend on douyin was "没事就走两步".
Based on the Emet Sound music video, though, I would guess that their sound/dance challenge also saw success on international IG (perhaps?) and tiktok. That's about all I know!
