Very first thoughts The Guardian
Please don’t spoiler stuff, I want to see if and when I can figure out things on my own...
The handsomely dirty main male character seems to be distinctly passed 30! I haven’t googled his age, but for the first time I feel like the main character is an actual adult with some life experience instead of a horny 20 something. There is nothing wrong with horny 20 somethings.
So he is a general doing his job, but then gets quite publically murdered? His entire household, too? And the pretty lady? Why? Evil advisor giving bad advice, of course, but nonetheless I am confused here.
Ok, so he does not get a burial, left to rot in a field, cursed to live till the goblin’s bride pulls out his bloody sword. I am getting an Arthurian/Flying Dutchman vibe here. He becomes... a ghost? demon? goblin? god? I know they opened up with a definition, but I do not remember it precisely enough. In any case he lives and can do magic things. He is also rich. Aren’t all immortals, always?
His servant gives him his grandson as a servant? Transgenerational servitude? Child Abuse? When that kid is thrown off the ship I assume very much it dies. How does that line continue? What about the wifes producing that offspring? In contemporary times he is introduced to the newst small grandson and granddad says he is “the first boy in four generations”, so did Mr. Immortal have female valets? How can that kid be the first son in four generations, if his grandfather seems quite male himself??
There is another dude, grim reaper with dramatic hat, and they don’t like each other.
He saves an unborn child out of a whim, but she is being raised by her ghost mom for nine years? Then she becomes pre-destined to be his goblin bride? How? Why? How do all the ghosts know immediately, but he seems to not get to know that?
Big hat reaper wants her, since she is a glitch in the matrix. My accountancy loving heart understands that logical argument. I am intrigued by the bureaucracy that is indicated in the background.
The current servant grandson seems douche-y. How can he rent out the place on his own? Now reaper guy and immortal general are roommates? Is this an “Oh my good they were roommates!” situation?
Matrix glitch ghost seeing goblin girl is in an abusive family situation and besides having ghost powers nobody helps her out. Even immortal dude doesn’t remove her from that ASAP. I am waiting for a Harry Potter situation to occur.
Prognosis: She is the one who can pull the sword and thereby give him the peace of death. But once that is a possibility he does not want to die. OR she keeps him around as a kind of djeannie wish machine for a while. Would not be a fan of the 19 year old school girl falling for the significantly older guy with money, but I guess that romance is inevitable. The reaper roommate situation plays into this somehow. We will learn more as to what led to that historic fuck up situation. Maybe she will get some actual magic powers on her own. Idiot grandson will mature eventually.
