words: blind, night, deep, gray
from the opening section (6 chapters) of the girl of crimson that i finally finished editing/rewriting
blind: “In front of the door at the back of the room, there was the grand mahogany desk with three worn chairs bowing at it’s front. The light that fluttered through heavy blinds ran numbly, and even away from the hungry eyes of the streets, I felt more uneasy. There was a melody of crookedness seething over the dark, over my tongue, over every breath I took.” (Carsen’s POV)
night: “The night air was tainted with a light breeze, layered with the soft smell of cold and a forgotten earth. I didn’t look back: not when I pushed away from the doorframe, not when I heard the door shut behind me, not even when I imagined Haddox’s eyes at my back. Kids don’t survive now. His words breathed to life in my head, but in that moment, they didn’t scare me. This world didn’t have children anymore, just fighters, we were all the same. I stepped towards Cain and Garnet, forced a smile onto my lips. Almost.” (Carsen’s POV)
deep: “I buried my fingernails deeper into the edge of the ship, took heavy inhalations of the cold fog. Their voices burnt over the quiet around us like flickers to a candle, but I couldn’t make out a single word. I watched, in quiet, as the soldiers began towards the deck of her ship. Watched, knowing there was no way she could survive an attack like that. Watched, as she took a pace back, as they leapt onto the deck of her ship, weapons drawn. Watched, hoping, praying, none of my friends would intervene.” (Paris’s POV)
gray: “I had been forced to see the world in it’s darkest form. I had seen the sky turn gray, then back to light. I had seen people bleed out, seen the world riddle away in the skies, and I had seen cowardice, and now, I saw it curled across every ridge on Thornton’s face.” (India’s POV)

Seeking Beta Readers for The Girl of Crimson xx
I’ve finally decided to share my YA apocalypse novel The Girl of Crimson!! It’s been my main project for about two years and I really really need some feedback on it. :)
My page with all the public info on it is here (check it out it’s really pretty!) It’s about six teenagers fighting to stay alive in a war turned apocalypse, one of them being possibly the only people who can end it. It focuses a ton on character development, found family, has a pirate-y feel to it, and is told through multiple perspectives.
What I’m Looking For
Readers, who are fans of YA dystopian/fantasy novels. You’d be expected to read the story and answer around 10 questions each quarter, alongside whatever notes you see fit to add throughout the story.
Length
It’s just under 119k words. It’s a touch on the long side, sorry! I’m hoping to cut it down after receiving all your feedback. :)
Reading Rate
I’ll be sending the story in quarters (more info on this below) so I was hoping for one quarter every 2-3 weeks. Extensions will of course be allowed. It would just be very helpful to know if they’re needed so I don’t have to stress myself out too much.
Interested?
Fill out this form here. You will almost surely be selected, though I’m only looking for a certain amount of readers for my first time having my work beta read.
(Also I’d be happy to swap manuscripts if you need anything read as well.)
@gloriawriting and @ava-burton-writing have both already agreed to beta read for me, which I am so so thankful for !!!
I’ll also be tagging a few mutuals to maybe help signal boost? @ekinsellaauthor @kbcypher @boothewriter @kclenhartnovels @authorisada @thespooniewrites @nicholewrites @brimorganbooks @atelierwriting @astralysis
Thank you so much!! x
Also I’m so sorry to all my followers for the amount of times I’m going to reblog this
