yeah but consider: aisling and bucky lying side by side together by the campfire, and aisling just tentatively reaching out until she's holding his hand. yk. for the giggles 🙂↕️
the road had not been kind to the band these past few nights ——— tested their patience, their hunger, their kindness. the distance they'd covered north of the kingdom of piltover had not been as long as the first few weeks when it was only the two of them. lighter packs, less people. though not all so bad — james was thankful for the company of others like viktor and jayce, for the addition of the scholar and fellow knight meant that aisling and james could afford a couple more winks of sleep.
the air of an oncoming autumn meant that the nights are much cooler now than that of the day. campfire struck for only tonight; the next village over is more than an hour's walk if james had remembered correctly. their humble little campsite hides amongst a small collection of juvenile firs, with armor and knapsacks tucked beside a mossed boulder.
soft chatter between their new companions accompany the whisper of the trees. they were far enough for james not to understand more than the cadence of their phrases, broken between a chuckle or hum. james keeps his eyes to the violet sky above and its many twinkling stars beyond pale wisps of clouds. he thinks of lifting his hand up to it as if he could pluck one of the starlights and see it glimmer in his palm. he does not.
he hears aisling beside him, the steadiness of her breath that had grounded him a number of times. he thinks of her. he thinks of eoin also. how his voice had sounded last he'd seen the man. clear as day against the splintering of castle gates, rallying cries, the knighthood bestowed upon the pages in the dawn of the incoming attack. james doesn't realize he‘d been picking at the ground between the cloaks they lay upon until he feels her little finger brush against his, then ring, middle, until her palm rests atop the back of his, with each finger threaded between.
“ still awake? “ the knight's voice is not much louder than the crackle of the fire. his hand closes. soft enough to say the gesture was only to keep her hand warm. james does not turn to look at her, instead, he keeps his gaze directed above them. he hears jayce laugh. viktor must have said something. “ ... i hear there are stories about the stars. i heard it, from the couple in the last town. books on the study of them. were it not so heavy, i think i would have liked to have taken one so that i may read it to you. “
seeing everyone who works on the show being so kind n supportive ?? well idk about the rest of you but im physically levitating right now
