no, he does not like the look that nate's wearing right now. he can count the number of times james feels entirely safe with the old man on a single hand, and despite having a sense of informality with nate that is becoming increasingly more common with every passing interaction, james jerks his body away from him accompanied by a look of disdain, as if the affection nate had offered had very evidently offended him.

i sorta love that in all timelines, all possibilities, james ends up helping people that come to him ... even if he didn't meet mama sonia in romania ... if he'd gone to hiding along the mountains and forests ... if someone came to him with a need, he'll ( ... albeit reluctantly ) help them. sigh, lover and helper james b. barnes, you will always be famous to me.

      ❝ no. ❞ the floor creaks beneath worn blood stained converse. the chill of the brisk night air sends a shiver up her spine and the mutant takes a step back from james's doorway. distant and tired blue eyes tear away from his features to look inside his living space. the aroma of leftovers being reheated in the kitchen carried itself out the door, her stomach churns painfully in response. it must've been over a day since she'd last had access to food. standing in front of him was an act of desperation and nessa was quick to turn away from him. in her mind, the soldier had every right to turn her away. without shelter, a shower came few and far between. blonde hair was unkempt, tangled with knots, her clothes are tattered beyond repair and stained with blood that belonged to not only her, but countless others. she looks disgusting.

grey eyes with the smallest tint of blue casts a glance behind her, some yards behind. anything moving that shouldn't be past the door she came through. any sounds that shouldn't be heard. “ i get answers, you get food. supplies. and get on out. “ he walks towards the stove, pistol now placed upon the counter. the soldier pulls a bowl from the drying rack and sets it next to the weapon. he makes himself look tired. james does not comment on the blood stuck to her clothes it's too much to be just hers. hair stands at the back of his neck. if she were the cause of all that blood that sticks to her, he'd likely lose. he has little doubt. a blunder and a waste to point it out now when she's a new face. “ you alone? being followed? “
