I'm thinking about how Aziraphale is being forged into a weapon of destruction. Aziraphale, who is soft and indulgent, who loves nice things and feeling nice.

Obeying God should be nice, shouldn't it? But if it's something that goes so much against your nature, something so unnatural, something so perverse, then does obeying God mean breaking yourself? Completely denying who you are, who you were shaped to be?

Yes, it does. Obligation to obey is violence. Creating someone just to break them is violence.

I'm just feeling that post-Miltonian 18th century atheism so much. Thank you, Neil Gaiman. Having a crash course in Western philosophy against my will.

when i was still an xtian, i heard the song 'ten thousand reasons' in church and took it as a personal challenge to come up with 10,000 reasons to be thankful to gd in a little over a year (or maybe under, i can remember now) which amounted to about 44 reasons a day. When I couldnt come up with 44 reasons a day, I thought i was a horrible pompous sinner because I was going to heaven, I should find 10,000 things to be grateful for in a year, right? I was alive. I wasn't fucking struck down for being evil with the first breath I took, even though I was born a sinner. Born evil. Born deserving hell. Fucking jesus died for me, that should mean that even though I was getting more depressed every day I should still be able to thank gd for 44 fucking things a day, right? Cause otherwise, what was I? evil, thankless, prideful, entitled.
