Broke: God is a man
Woke: God is a woman
Awoken: God doesn't have any gender we can perceive.
I don't want to ever see a Christian disrespecting pronouns ever again. god is literally non-binary what the fuck guys
God is a he/him nonbinary.
This was just gonna be a shitpost about our understanding of God and the patriarchy, but then I got curious, and read a couple of articles about it.
so, first thing’s first.
God has no gender. God is a spirit, they exist in all and are all, all the time. They are not limited by the physical like we are.
Because of that:
God, in older texts, and even today, in certain metaphors, is described using both masculine and feminine pronouns and attributes.
There are two main reasons we refer to God as “he”.
Most of the time, God was explained using masculine attributes and gender roles. The Israelites were a patriarchal society. Men had the most freedom, men were the ones who would provide for families and care for widows and wives and children. Without a man, you were shit outta luck. That’s the main thing ancient texts were about: without God, you’re shit outta luck.
Later church leaders (aka the patriarchy) made God “male”. Because God was above all, God must obviously be the better sex.
In Conclusion:
God is nonbinary. Or genderfluid. Or agender.
God’s pronouns are he/him/she/her/they/them.
God is.
Did you know that Hebrew doesn't have gender neutral pronouns? Even in plural the pronouns are gendered. Male pronouns are used in general, which is still misogynistic but it means that translations of the Torah usually misgender God as a man, when in fact gendering God at all is blasphemous. In Judaism, depicting God isn't allowed. God made humans not in his image, but in his own design. God is incorporeal and omnipresent. The hebrew pronoun that translates to "he" is likely used in lieu of gender neutral pronouns when referring to God. God is not a man, not a woman, and not even androgynous. God is existence its, the entire universe. Everything is (supposedly) by his design. While my faith is shaky at best, I believe that if God exists, he made everyone exactly how he wants them. Trans people are trans because he made them trans. Because that's what he wanted for them. There is no room for transphobia in the way I approach Judaism.
Transphobic Jews exist, sure, but transphobic Christians are the ones who make their beliefs everyone else's problem. Judaism is about inward belief, and procreation, and tradition. Christianity is more focused on spreading itself like a fucking virus. A Jewish person will never push their beliefs onto goyim. In fact, we're supposed to dissuade people who want to convert because it has to be a fully thought-out decision. In terms of religion, Christianity is an invasive species, a parasite, and I hate it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to all Christians, just Christianity as a whole, especially in its current form. None of my Christian friends would ever push their beliefs onto me, and are considerate about my dietary restrictions (even though I don't really mind eating nonkosher, they still make sure beforehand).
This isn't how i meant for this post to go, but honestly im too fucking pissed about Christianity to care
i may be stuck inside, but only god themself can make me stop wearing my hadestown shirt
Me, writing a Good Omens fanfic: what does it say about God that the first thing they did after creating Eden was to wall it off?
Also me: Best not to think about that.
