          he can understand it-- perhaps better than most might. how often, had he been exactly there? kicked to the dirt, pushed to the brink. thinking-- just thinking that maybe, THIS IS FINALLY IT, that this is where it’ll get him. that death might finally be ready to take him, only to snap back and throw life into him. one more time-- just one more time. surely, he wouldn’t get out of it again.   but it never seemed to stop. and while he was always THANKFUL for it, there was still a certain disorientating feeling when you just didn’t die. 

          so he completely gets it.     but he also knows he couldn’t even begin to understand her pain on this one. 

          for him-- it’d been like waking up from a dream. not waiting, spending five long years waiting. for him, it’d been simple. he knew the same couldn’t be said for her-- and after ALL she had been through already, all the pain and suffering and the almosts-- it wasn’t fair that she’d had to suffer this one too. 

          “m’sorry. i mean it. that you had to go through it all. you didn’t deserve it.” bringing his hand up, bucky cups her cheek before leaning in to press lips to her forehead. “i guess the universe wasn’t ready to let you go yet. it knew i’d be coming back to you.”
