5 Ways to Have a God-Centered Marriage

1. Praying Together

When we marry someone, we become one with them. Therefore, I believe it is critical to come before God as a single unit. By praying together, we are doing that. We are saying to God that these are our struggles, praises, requests, questions, etc. as a couple. We can also incorporate the same things in our personal prayers, but there is something different about praying as a couple. I feel we are glorifying God when we honor the union He made by presenting ourselves as one flesh.

2. Biblical Compliments

Find ways to relate the good qualities your spouse has to passages in the Bible. Tell your husband when his actions towards you reflect those of Jesus towards the Church. Tell your children about God's love for them by relating your husband's actions as a father to God's actions towards us. As Christians, we strive to be more like Jesus. What better compliment can there be than for someone to affirm that you are doing just that?

Today is the first day of treatments, the beginning of finally feeling like myself again. You have been so amazing through this. You’ve been by my side encouraging me, helping me. Making sure I get the rest I need. You’ve held me late at night in bed while I cry from pain and frustration. You’ve prayed over me constantly, and always made sure I knew God is with us. You’ve pushed me physically, mentally and spiritually. I don’t know what I would do without you. These first few months of our marriage have not been ideal and at times very hard. But our love has only grown in ways I could never have imagined. I don’t know why we keep getting pounded by the enemy, and the only conclusion I can come up with is he is terrified of us. Of what God is going to do through us. And every time he try’s to destroy our joy or our marriage we come back stronger than before. With God holding us together reminding us every step of the way whether that be in our finances or my health that He has us. That the light at the end of this tunnel is coming.
