Not since her earliest days had the Goddess been so strong. So believed in. It wasn’t just Shanadoh any more. It was a few thousand more. And more still pouring in.
She radiated warmth and life. Discharging it in a high rate of twins, and, on occasion, triplets. She watched as Shanadoh sprawled out in his sleep. Giving a soft smile, she pinched his blankets between her fingers, and readjusted them so he was covered again.
He promptly kicked them off, causing her to smirk. He’d grown more spirited since their little raid late summer. It was almost ending now. And he grimaced at this.
A tiny pop was heard in the air. Then, all at once, a mighty crash, like a demented thunder. There, standing before her. Was the goddess of decadence. Anything beautiful in the human world, was because of her. Any pleasure, any splendor that humans had. IT was mostly because of her.
She sneered. Tossing the human that was her titan aside. The man fell helplessly to the floor. Whimpering softly as he landed. Any injury sustained would heal in Holly’s realm. But the pain would remain unless she directly tampered with it.
“YOU!” The brightly robed goddess hissed. They’d never enjoyed one another’s company. Particularly because Holly’s role as the goddess of life ALSO covered pro-creation.
“Me? What ever could I have done to offend you, sister. Are my flowers not pink enough?” She blinked innocently.
“Shut up! You know what you did. You slaughtered my followers!” She shrieked. So much for not waking Shanadoh.
“I slaughtered a city. Yes. they slew my most devout priest, and enslaved his son. I did not know or care WHO they followed.” She shrugged.
“I demand compensation!” She wailed. Holly just could not stand this goddess. In the least. She leaned heavily on the table huffing.
“Your titan.” She jabbed a finger at Shanadoh. “How’d you like to be mine little man?”
Shanadoh eyed the broken man on the floor, and stood closer to his goddess’ hand. “I wouldn’t like. My goddess, she can’t actually take me, can she?”
“SILENCE!” The invading goddess shrieked. “You should know better than to talk back to your mama.”
Holly ran a soothing hand over his form. “No. She can’t take you Shanadoh. Gods cannot demand another gods titan as a compensation. So talk back to her all you like. You’re protected by higher laws than even the gods.”
The other goddess flinched back. Hissing in disdain. Holly just smirked. “Not my fault your current Titan has no loyalty to you. Have you tried treating him better?”
“I’ll not be mocked like this! I demand you repay me for every single life you took from me!” The nature goddess shrugged.
“Fine. FINE! You have followers wedding soon?” The other goddess nodded. “Good. Each follower to consummate that union will be blessed with three beautiful babies.”
“...Don’t you DARE make them gay.” The other goddess hissed.
“Perish the thought!” Holly waved a hand. “They will grow up as happy or miserable as you please, and with the right care, will only follow you.”
The invader nodded with satisfaction. “Good. Fine. I’ll take it.”
“Oh, and Karla?” The other goddess eyed Holly with confusion and anger.
“The next time you come bursting into my realm. The elder gods had better approve of it. Else, we may have an issue.” She gestured to a strange injury across her arm. Weeping an ever shifting, living liquid.
The Goddess Karla slapped the injury in panic. Gods, could not invade another gods’ realm. Not with ill intent. If they did, an eldar would mar their skin with a permanent scar, showing other gods their shame. There was no way to hide such an injury.
She turned on the Goddess, sneering. “Y-” Karla was stunned into silence. The room around her had grown, now turning thorny and gnarled, the Goddess Holly had grown massive, the size of a mountain range really.
“Karla? Just leave. You have your boon. And your scar.” The goddess gestured. Wisely the other goddess left. Holly returning to her more natural state.
“M-my goddess?” Shanadoh eyed her frightfully.
“Hm?” She glanced over him, not willing to look directly at the human.
“You.. I’ve never seen you so big.” He cleared his throat.
“I haven't reached that size in millennia. People are believing in me now. More than ever before...” She bit her finger in contemplation. “Stay here.”
Like a shot, she was gone. Willing herself to float among the table of gods. She had to see the elders. To work out why she was suddenly rising back to her old post on the ladder again.
She made sure to bow on her way in. Facing two titanic statues. The mother, and father of all gods. Light and Dark. Day and Night. Purity, and Sin. One made of pure white marble. The other black onyx. Only she, and her true brother called them by name however.
“Mother? Father? I have... questions.” She knelt respectfully. Until her very being prompted her to speak.
“Why? Why are the humans believing me again?” She tilted her head. Her soul roiled.
Because you have proven yourself to them. You have given them reason to want you in their lives. The slaves you freed for your titan. They’re talking. We want you to do more of that!
Balance. Child. There has been an imbalance for too long. Human belief has shaped new gods. But killed many of the old. Do you remember your brother? The god of the cold north?
“Yes. I miss him.” Holly felt her heart shake. Long before the new gods rose. She was on of a counsel of Eight. The elder gods, herself, death, and the four elements. Right now, only the goddess of fire and forge remained of the elements.
We cannot bare to lose one more child. The new gods have no respect. No sense of duty. They toy with the lives you put upon this earth. They are not true gods.
“Mother... Father. What are you suggesting?” Holly quirked a brow.
We have changed the most loyal of our followers into giants. We have changed they follow us to the letter and are granted long life in return. When the time comes, and your true siblings have returned to the living. All of you will be given the power to re-shape your most devout believers.
You and your brother must bring them back. Stir your new followers into talking. Give their belief back to them. We will keep the false gods occupied while you do so.
Holly raised her head. Nodding once. “I will need my titan in on this. Big time.”
