      he scoffs, an inherit reaction at the words megumi offered him. while itadori never spoke about that day  — never told megumi or nobara about junpei  — they both somehow knew something tragic had happened. megumi especially knew. it was like he could read itadori like a damned book ; it was almost annoying, especially since the boy was trying his best to forget that day  — to forget that he’d failed to save someone who deserved saving.

     eyes stare out at the field, watches as panda trains with maki and toge on the grass. it was a nice day  — the sun was out with a bit of a light breeze  — and yet itadori was failing to force himself to smile. ( add it to the list of his failures. ) perhaps that’s why megumi speaks, because he can see it on his face.

     slowly, itadori turns to face his friend. he manages to get the corners of his lips to turn upward but it’s clearly forced and weak. ‘  healing?  ’  the boy jests, ‘  i’m fine, megumi. stop worrying.  ’

he regards the student, up and down. he can tell the kid had already gone through too much, seen things no kid should have to see. but that was just the standard for sorcerers in training. he knew that all too well. he saw a bit of himself in the kid, somebody who held others at arm’s length and acted cold and aloof as a means of self preservation. he knew that all too well.

This must have been Kaeya’s doing... Even if he just took one look at this cake- Diluc could tell Kaeya was behind all of this. Though he simply would leave that for the winery staff- he wasn’t about to let them have the fruit on the top so he just stole them for himself while he went to go through the presents... As much as he wanted to forget about 90% of this day. Kaeya would never let it go if he didn’t at least go through the presents he left.

Two empty and a few with a couple things he could use in them (The silly things he really couldn’t find a use for... but he’d find it.), even the new clothes were something that got a smile out of him.

He’d have to figure out how to thank him later...

for now he was going to enjoy the fruit that he stole from his cake...

         And he would truly be a fool if even the most covert of movement were to pass by his eye unnoticed; as trained as it was.  He may have been a clown, but in no sense of the word was he incompetent or lacking.  But even so, tact was arguably something he believed he knew better than some.. maybe most.  

       ... But what was he up to? Being so shifty.  He couldn’t help but smirk at the other’s efforts.  But moments would pass before his own question was answered not long after as that pale hand reaches out within inches of his chest.

  ‘oh?’ the thought echoes in his mind.

         ---- and then.

                  Bright pink, almost the shade of the pompom he wore adorned to his cape, dusted his pale features.  A kiss?  His heart beat loudly in his chest, and for a moment he wondered if Fedya could feel it even from the small space between himself and the other’s hand.  Static in his mind popped as the feeling of those cold lips touched his skin---

              “Haaa~?” a questioning breath left his own before eye widened.

                   “---D-Dostoy, when did you get so BRAVE?” a gloved hand comes up to his face in a sheepish and surprised manner

                   Drat.  That was the perfect time to kiss him back, but instead, he froze there like a corpse.  He didn’t suppose it was too late for a do-over? Could he still kiss him back---

            Nevermind that incompetent statement.  He truly was a fool!

‘ you’re wrong about him. ‘ people could say fyodor and dazai were two sides to the same coin as much as they wanted to. perfect matches for each other, maybe, but kunikida refused to hear that they were similar. as naive as it might be, he couldn’t accept that. and once he made his mind up about something, it was near impossible to change it. it was as solid as his ideals. 

‘ people can change. he is nothing like you. ‘ perhaps it was too naive to think there was good in everyone. but he didn’t care. he had to accept and look for the best in people, or else this job would eat him alive. 

‘ he’s trying to be a good man. and that’s enough for me. perhaps if you were able to be surrounded by people who loved you, you could change, too. but i won’t forgive you for what you’ve done. ‘
