like most first introductions, lou watched the demigod from afar to see how they were going to go about the conversation. this one didn’t seem too bad and he at least had manners, so they wouldn’t lurk in the dark for too long. they seemed to be getting ready for something though, so a couple of bags were spread about the area.
“you have an interesting trial behind you. short, but expansive. i can tell that you explored alexandria for a lot that it had to offer.“ the retriever gladly took the small pouch of drachmae and set it off to a specific pile. after that they went back to julian and got comfortable while getting ready for the story.
lou thought about the question briefly, shadowy hand coming to rest upon their chin as they took a seat. “the library of congress was challenging and interesting, almost untouched even. there was one place i went on king’s behalf when the council was formed though. the island of crete, are you familiar with it? filled with wonders and beauties that i’ll never forget.”

Julian didn’t know what to make of Lou, but that wasn’t what mattered. Sure, they were shrouded and an odd wave of voices rolling over one another for dominance, rendering any focus on his pitch or tone to be near-futile, but Lou’s also a curious sort. He figured if anyone had a tale to tell, it’d be Lou.
He nodded sure enough at the comment, sitting next to Lou, “It was something else. It went surprisingly well, for the most part. But we still lost someone that day. I, and surely the others, are making sure his death wasn’t in vain.” He followed the shadowy hand, ascending the vague slope of forearm until he met the finer points of presumably fingers. As Lou informed him of the library and its council’s homeland, Julian’s admiration for the team grew. The library was Ari’s trial, moment of ascension and testimony of worth.
“I have heard of Crete, but never been. Closest I’ve gone in my old life was Spain to see my mom’s family,” he admitted and carded a hand through his hair. Julian smiled gently, “I’d think a library would be a beautiful place to get lost in. Not just the architecture, but the knowledge within the books. Where there also books, or at least scrolls, in Crete, too? Or are the wonders you’re talking about magical and spiritual in quality?”
