God Thoth Art by Jess Frost
HISTORY OF THE MYSTERIOUS ART! - MAGIC
Embark on a tour of the history of magic, from antiquity through the middle ages to the present day. Mysterious art of magic has fascinated people since the beginning of time: magic and magicians have left their traces in historical sources from every period, in every culture.
Antiquity And The Middle Ages
In ancient Egypt, magicians were powerful and highly regarded. Their understandings of healing made their way into medical writings, and healing magic became most common form of magic a that time (along with love charms). In an Egyptian spell papyrus, the demon god Seth is depicted as a magician holding a long staff in his left hand. In ancient Rome, the bearer of such a magic wand was called a baculatus, derived from baculum, the staff of the Roman fortunetellers. The Egyptians , however, considered the god Thoth the ruler over magic. In a papyrus dating from the 12th dynasty it is also written that whoever uses the first spell ofÂ
Thoth will understand the language of animals. One who recites the second spell of Thoth in the realm of the dead will immediately resume their terrestrial form and return to Earth.Â
Magic is thus said to be very powerful even beyond this life, and can also be practiced in the hereafter.
