Chocolate Ganache: what made you start writing this wip? was it a trope? a vibe? a character?

My fantasy series developed from many ideas, one of them being soulmates. I eventually scrapped this idea but I still adore the concept and it's been nagging me since well, forever.

What are soulmates? Are they decided by others, created by themselves, bonded through lifetimes of finding each other again and again?

What if their love was so strong, the devotion to each other, that they would not just kill but obliterate for the other? What if they did something together, something magnificent, and the universe would fear them together because of it?
