Caption is really important!!!!!!! Please take this into consideration!!!!!!!!
This is something for any of my American followers to be aware of. Post taken from a post on #imgur
This is what the Internet will look like if we allow Pai and the FCC dismantle net neutrality. DON’T LET THEM. (Images taken from a quick google images search - which will become impossible if net neutrality is destroyed. Think about that )
Net Neutrality (Easy, No-Talking-On-the-Phone Way to Rebel Against the Government Even If You’re Not American)
If you’re American (like me), then you probably have noticed that Net Neutrality is in real danger (again, sigh). American politics suck, the American government sucks, pretty much every institution in America sucks - and the bad thing is that as a very powerful country, we influence other countries. Which means? If we kill Net Neutrality in the USA, other countries will probably take that as a sign they should and can (and will) do the same.
The government was created to represent its citizens. That doesn’t work when no one is calling/messaging/voicing their opinions to their representatives. (And yes, a lot of government websites make it suuuuper hard to do anything because they really don’t want you to speak up because angry citizens doing stuff makes their lives harder, boo hoo).
Anyway someone created a link that’ll take you right to where you need to go. Click on the following link, so cleverly named gofccyourself, click on +Express and fill out the info and let the government know that this is NOT okay!! And YES you can fill this out if you are NOT American! You just need to click the “International” box next to the address line!
This requires no phone call at all. You don’t have to talk to anyone directly. You can also text “RESIST” to 50409 and it will walk you through how to write to your state representative.
This is really important. I usually avoid talking about politics ever, but this affects millions of people - especially poorer and middle class families.
Writing racist things on the internet is not how you win the net neutrality debate...it's how you win the presidency.

Why this matters and how it affects you (explained by me):
You will have to pay more for internet services, including Netflix, YouTube, Social Media, and many others, because there are only a few US Internet Service Providers currently in power that control most of the internet we have access to. The Verge explains it as such,
“If Netflix and Amazon are forced to pay additional fees to have their streaming services included in Comcast’s “good” bundles, the end result is that we, the consumers, will bear that cost. And since Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are international services, those costs are likely to trickle down to unsuspecting customers beyond the US as well.”
That’s only an example of the money aspect, because on top of that is the ability for ISPs to control what you see, how fast you see it, and if you even see it at all if you decide not to pay for their “entertainment package” or their “social media package” or “news package”. The internet will no longer be a level playing field. It will cost more for less information.
The final, and I believe the most important, reason we all need to fight this is to assert some control over what laws pass and are repealed in the US. The United States is a major power that not only is one of the most powerful countries in the world, but is in the spotlight a lot of the time, and has been especially focused on over the last year or so due to the new Trump Administration. Lots of talk of new bills and reforms and fake news and the like has been tossed around but this has snuck up on us because we were so focused on every little thing Trump tweeted.
The internet is the world now. This is not to be taken lightly. This affects every single one of you reading this and I know people have been criticized for acting like there’s no longer any hope but this is a very dark time for everyone, and to act like it isn’t is naive and isn’t helping anyone. Sitting back and leaving it the hands of states who are planning to sue or other people who are calling their representatives or simply trusting that the government won’t screw you over like that is stupid. You are the people, and if you’re not in the US, you are the ones who have a duty to not only fight for the country that provides so much of the internet for you, but fight for your country who should not have to suffer because of our stupid selfish government.
Lashing out at the lawmakers and politicians online and so publicly is super not my style, and there’s not a doubt in my mind that some who read this may disagree with me and feel free to leave your comments below telling me how dramatic this is, but you can’t deny the consequences of these net neutrality rules and imagining the worst case scenario coming to pass is not crazy or dramatic or pessimistic at this point.
Either fight or don’t, but you have the choice to join every other person in the world who is sharing and reblogging and tweeting and taking action about this right now. Voices are powerful in large numbers and yours matters.
I’m sorry that there have been more political posts on this blog, which is primarily devoted to writing, but this is too important to sit back and let unfold without a fight. If you don’t care about this, as an internet user, what do you care about?
Why I Posted This:
I was sent the following Ask: “we actually haven't lost yet. it still has yet to go to court. just because they voted to repeal it doesn't mean it's over yet. keep fighting.”
My response was:
“I had already lost faith in my government. This is bigger than just internet neutrality. This is the fact that, even with overwhelming public outcry, the people who are supposed to be looking out for us, the citizens the government exists to serve, voted to give power to corporations that can remove our access to information. This is just confirmation that the US government does not look out for the people. It doesn’t care what we want or what is best for us. It cares about money, and money alone.
I don’t want to be a social justice warrior about it, but this decision put us one step closer to being under the thumb of corporations that want to screw us over. This not only put me one step closer to having limited internet access, but it destroyed my trust in the interest of the government itself. Millions of people spoke out against net neutrality being repealed and it was still voted to be repealed. Sure the FCC does not represent the whole of the government, but I don’t need to go on a whole tangent about how awful the people in power are at the moment.
I will keep fighting, and this is not the last you will hear of this on my blog, but for now, all I can do is wait for more news and be optimistic. However, even if net neutrality is somehow saved, what little faith I actually had in the people in power in my country was just obliterated.”
So yeah, I’m going to keep fighting.
