The year our Thanksgiving dinner exploded:
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation was my big brother's favorite movie as a tween. So one year, when the extended family was in town for Thanksgiving, we kept joking about exploding turkey. Incessantly.
Mom was working her butt off with little help and getting really tired of the jokes. But when a 12 year old boy latches onto something he finds hilarious, you're not stopping him.
Dinner was almost ready, and we were dishing up the food and setting the table with our nicest dishware. Bro was still making exploding turkey jokes as Mom was piling mashed potatoes into the big serving bowl... and it exploded. Literally.
The bowl couldn't handle the heat and blew up the kitchen. Shattered glass was everywhere, Bro was rolling on the floor laughing so hard it sounded like an asthma attack, Mom was about to cry and smack him, Dad was picking glass out of the food, and I told the story at every family holiday since.
My brother later turned into Clark Griswold himself. He puts up 5 trees every year, and makes salt potatoes instead of mashed.
Master bedroom and library 1 are done! The best part is, I didn't spend ONE cent. It was all just elbow grease and stuff I already owned.
I still can't leave the house, so I'm trying to make it a pleasant place to rot in.
Look what else I found:
It's all so cute! You know I had to stick a Siamese in there somewhere.
This time of the year is hard for me, so I've decided to go Griswold.
This is gonna take a while, but I do enjoy sorting stuff. And yes, you can totally distract grief with tinsel and glitter.
Add cats to be extra festive.
Sandy Filters is looking pretty drab.
