Today I became bionic...well sort of bionic. I had a Reveal Cardiac Monitor, (about the size of a USB Jump Drive) implanted in my chest which will remain there for the next three years before its battery runs out. Technology is amazing. This device monitors my heart activity with the intention of helping my cardiologist to detect atrial fibrillation and other heart rhythm abnormalities that are very difficult to detect with external monitors. Being able to detect problems as they occur could help prevent a potential stroke or heart attack! The best part is that I can scan the implanted monitor with a portable device to capture the data as symptoms occur and then send them to my care team via the Net, instead of travelling from Quesnel to the hospital in Prince George!
