Conservation Status- Least Concern

Habitat- South America

Size (Weight/Length)- 4 kg; 90 cm

Diet- Rodents; Birds; Fruits

Cool Facts- Five golden rings. While not technically a ring, gold tegu are one of the few metallic gold animals. This species of tegu are relatively large and spend much of their life on the ground. They are known to climb into trees to hunt but as a result of their weight, it is harder for them to climb. Their mouths are full of tiny, sharp teeth that are like tiny razor blades. Unlike other tegu species, gold tegus are more foul tempered and don’t tend to make good pets. It’s more of a bite first, ask questions later mentality. With dedication and plenty of handling, gold tegu are able to be friendly pets.
