GZ tended to have mixed feelings about human films, regardless of the genre. He did not mind them, as some were interesting or had interesting elements, but he had already learned that they were not particularly reliable for human representation or realistic possibilities.
The film of this movie night gathering between a few owners and teams, however, was one of the least appealing he had been exposed to yet. There was not one character GZ could fully understand in actions and motives. There were statistical and scientific errors. The subplots felt unnecessary and the romance forced, filling time between dramatic editing more than anything. He was having great difficulty thinking of any reason to appreciate the film’s existence.
But GZ summarized his over all opinion in one simplified remark, “I didn’t find this movie enjoyable.” It was not necessarily intended to be a conversation starter, but Gold Mask did happen to be nearest to him at the time, becoming an indirect recipient.
