The Like a Virgin single was certified Gold, indicating shipments/sales of 1,000,000 units.
Prior to 1989 the singles certifications were double, Gold was worth 1 Million while Platinum was worth 2 Million. Unfortunately WB/Sire never updated this with the RIAA, so Like a Virgin is still listed as having only shipped/sold 500K.
