What is "Golden Week"?
The Golden Week is a great week of vacations that the Chinese people have twice a year. We experienced it during the National Day that happens October 1st, in order to celebrate the creation of the Republic of China. Why is it a great week? Because originally, the Chinese have just 3 days off but as they are very smart and well-organized, they had a really good idea: they work the week-end before, so that after the 3 days off, they can use the 2 remaining days as their week-end and then have a full week of holidays! Even the kids go to school during this week-end of work, Chinese don't laugh with it! Golden week means also the whole China in vacations. Can you imagine 1 billion of people who are travelling during the same week? Frankly, I would have preferred that the Golden Week happen another time. Because I had just arrived in China, and after six months of half vacations and three weeks of kind of classes, I could have stayed some more weeks in Suzhou. Because I would have liked enjoying this week during a time I would have needed it. I don't understand why the school gave us this week of vacations. did it had to close its doors as any chinese institution or did it want us to got used to the chinese culture right away? Indeed, we experienced so much during the Golden Week! The two days that I spent in Hangzhou with Juliette killed me so much that I've been sleeping since then! I have not recovered yet from this week!
